        Hello!

I’m a new bunny mom to my baby benni. he is a mini rex and my boyfriend and I just got him about a week ago. He has been in perfect condition and happy! Except my boyfriend and I both think Benni may have possibly caught a few flees from our one dog. We keep them separated and use powder & vacuum the room. However, I think Benni still has fleas on him. From what I’ve read, there really isn’t much to do for bunnies. I want Benni to be healthy and happy! I don’t like seeing him frustrated or getting bit. Please help me or give me some advice !

The vet can get you some flea stuff.  Do NOT use frontline it WILL KILL your bunny.   The vet would give you revolution.   The vet can show you where on your bunny to put it.  Not between the shoulder blades he can clean there and ingest it.   It is more like behind their ears and rub it in good.  The vet can instruct you.

The revolution will be for kittens  that is what you will use on your bunny.

Frontline is like the oil you put on your dog.  I use it on Cotton once a month when I take him outside to run.  It is in the 90s and too hot to take him out now.  It works great.  I think it works for mites too.  Not the ear ones.

I would NOT use the flea stuff at the stores.  The stuff you put on the cats n dogs.  It could be harmful to your bunny.

I don’t think you mean Frontline bunnytowne….do you mean something else? Because you know and stated Frontline is fatal for rabbits :~)

Benni’s Mom – yes, Revolution is what you want and bunnytowne mentioned that as well.

                Thank you for replying!

So for the dog I should use frontline? and for Benni I should use revolution?

Tomorrow when my boyfriend and I both have off we are going to try and make it to a vet, Benni needs to be fixed soon anyway.

I read that a lot of the flea stuff in stores is not good for bunnies. So i was hesitant about trying that without professional / bunny owner advice.

I am a bit confused though. Are you saying revolution for kittens should be okay on Benni?

Sarita, I was confused when bunnytowne said frontline can be used and also said could not be used.

But revolution should be okay on him?

Would I have to get this from the vet?

I was confused when bunnytowne said frontline was unsafe but then also said she used it.

You both stated revolution should be safe.

Do I get this from the vet?

Thank you for replying as well! I’m so worried about my munchkin

If the dog is around the rabbit at all, I think I would use Revolution on him as well. I am just very wary of using Frontline even on your dog if there is any possibility for contact.

You can get Revolution through your vet – usually the dosage for kittens is good for rabbits. I know the dog dosage depends on weight.

                        Sarita,

The dog and Benni are separated at all times. The dog is old and we didn’t want to take any risks of them being near each other. The dog is my boyfriends dad’s so hopefully we can convince him to use frontline or some flea medicine on him. We only have enough money to take care of Benni. Right now his dad uses this powder for fleas.

We use it in the room as well and vacuum it up. As of now until the old dog passes. Benni is only in our bedroom and can only run around in there. The dog never comes in there and the door is always shut. We recently blocked off the hallway as well near the door so the dog wouldn’t even come close.

I will have to talk to my boyfriend when I get home about going to the vet tomorrow to see if revolution would be okay to use.

Thanks once again for your help ! I hope we can rid of this flea problem for good!

Okay, then if you use Frontline on the dog that would be okay.

House Rabbit Society also says that Advantage (not Advantix) is safe for rabbits so that is another option as well. Just plain old Advantage.

Ivermectin is also fine to use. The vet would be a good idea, he can show you how to apply the medication, and you can schedule Benni’s neuter.
