Just wondering if any of you have med insurance for your pets? If so, where did you get it from? What does it cover? How does it work?

I have VPI pet insurance on all three buns. Google VPI pet insurance, rabbit insurance, etc and you will find it. I believe they may be the only ones in the US that insure exotics. Make sure to look for exotics on their website — I think you actually have to call them for quote on bunnies. You pay vet, submit claim to them, they reimburse %, $50 deductible per incident. I pay $11 per month per bun. Care Credit in conjunction with insurance would help with the up front payment. I haven’t gotten around to submitting claims yet but have a GI stasis, an ear infection, and an eye abrasion to submit . . . just since I took the insurance out in March!

I live in the States and the only pet insurance that covers rabbits is VPI. I just signed up for it actually and also want to sign up for carecredit which is a credit card that is designated for veterinary use. For dogs and cats, however, I would recommend Trupanion over VPI, as VPI isn’t really the best.

Just curious, what makes trupanion better for dogs? I don’t really know much about pet insurance.

Trupanion as a whole is more reliable than VPI is for insurance, I work at an animal clinic and most clients are very very pleased with Trupanion while VPI not so much. Unfortunately Trupanion only covers cats and dogs so it isn’t an option for my rabbit but as I wanted Gunther insured, I signed up for VPI.
