        Hi everyone! Flash got spayed today! Everything went well and the vet said shortly after waking up she ate a little. Since she’s been home she’s eating a little but not much at all a few nibbles, drank a few drinks and is peeing and pooping a little. I am about to go to sleep in a few hours and I can tell she’s coming out of the anesthesia, and I’m scared she will chew her stitches and open up while I’m sleeping. She keeps licking her shaved area but I don’t want to sleep incase something happends to her? Any suggestions and tips how to keep her calm on a quick recovery? Her next meds are tomorrow anytime with food.

          With meds that should keep the licking down. I’ve had success with chihuahua sized cones too for keeping bunnies out of their stitches; if you do find you need one many pet stores sell them or your vet may sell them.

          Sounds like she is doing well, females often eat very little that first day or two, but she’s attempting it and her pooping shows her system is moving which is very good.

          Super glad you have meds for her-that makes them recover quickly in my experience.

          All I’d suggest is pushing her favorite veggies and keeping an eye, and keeping the house quiet. {{Healing Vibes}}

            Lola was spayed June 1. She didn’t eat at all after until dinnertime the next day and then it was very little.By the second morning though she was eating like a champ again. She never stopped pooping though so she may have been eating a little hay here and there when I wasn’t watching. She also licked her shaved belly but she never actually licked the stitches that I could see/tell. I checked them every morning and again at bedtime for the first few days then once a day after that. I was worried too but they never looked red or puffy and there wasn’t any bleeding. Hopefully Flash will be the same way.

              How can I check the stitches? She’s always lying down and im scared to pick her up to injur her. Her poops are really small is that normal after spay or should they be normal size?

                Poops will be smaller for about 2-3 days but will get back to normal soon. To check her stitches give it a day or so the wiggle her favourite treat at persicope height. When she stands up for it sneak a peek at her tummy… In the interim lots of aromatic herbs like basil coriander and parsley well soaked will help keep her hydrated.

                    Weird poops are normal for a couple days. It could just be because she’s not eating a ton.
                    You can also check the stitches by giving her a treat to keep her still, then sliding a small mirror under her.
