Since I’ve gotten Willow and have been researching different sicknesses Rabbits are prone to (due to her sneezing) I’ve stumbled across the idea of insuring her. My parents have two dogs and both are uninsured so I’m wondering if it’s worth it for Willow. Being a first time rabbit and independent pet owner I want to do everything in my power to provide a good life for Willow. With things like GI Stasis, Snuffles, and every other scary illness out their for my Willow to contract I’d really like something like this for my own peace of mind. But I’m not sure where to start. Most insurance plans for my area are fairly inexpensive so I’m not really fretting about the cost. I am, however, more concerned with getting the best plan. What are some of your experiences with pet insurance for your Rabbits and have you found it worth the cost? So far 7 dollars roughly a month seems reasonable enough for a pet who could potentially cost me a lot should something bad happen. Also, what are some good carriers that you’ve found (I live in America)?

        Thanks

        Kelsey & Willow

Can’t speak for other countries, but I believe VPI is the only one in the US that covers rabbits. I have it on all three of mine. I think you have to have had the bun for at least 3 (?) months. Does not cover spay/neuter procedures.

Edit: I got the insurance for the exact reasons you listed. I followed a thread of another BBer while his bun went through procedures/surgery and read how glad he was that he had pet insurance. Bought it right away for my three. It was significantly cheaper than for dogs/cats. Worth the peace of mind for me. Some BBers have a special pet reserve fund for such things. I’m just more yhe buy insurance type.

Some people here have pet insurance for their bunnies and other people have savings accounts and some people have it coupled with Care Credit.

There is an old post where people with VPI insurance talk about how much a vet bill was and how much they were reimbursed. If you’re interested you can check that out here:

I think most, if not all, pet insurance is reimbursement based. So you would have to pay the initial vet bill and be reimbursed by the insurance company depending on what they cover.

I have a savings account for my pets and CareCredit, a credit card you can use for vet care. With CareCredit if you pay back the amount within a certain time frame it’s interest free.
