        Hi! Here’s the whole story:

A few days after I bought Mowjow (my very first bunny, pet shop sales lady said she’s around 2 months old), I noticed some very strange poop from her — clear jelly like poop. She was still very active and I wasn’t so much worried so I just observed her for less than 24 hours. And then she started to produce cecotropes and won’t eat them and I got worried. I took her to the vet, and after a fecal, the doctor said she has worm eggs in her poop (I forgot to ask what kind of worm). The doctor dewormed her and instructed me to giver her antibiotics twice daily for one week and then come back to the vet hospital in 2 weeks. Fortunately her poop became normal again. But I don’t know if her poop now still has worm eggs. I’ve read it’s normal for rabbits to sometimes eat their normal poop, but I’m worried that she might get reinfected with the worms when she eats them.  What are your experiences with deworming, my fellow bunny lovers/owners?

        Thanks in advance!

Well, it always best to take a poop to the vet for another fecal test – that is always what I’ve done.

Usually the vet should give you enough dewormer to break the cycle but in any even, best to have the fecal rechecked to make sure the worms are no longer there.

            Thanks for your reply!

Do you think I should go have it tested already? Or can I just wait until the 2nd week (when I have to go back to the vet) as long as nothing’s wrong with my bunny?

If you have an appt. to go back then it can wait – I imagine that is why they want to see you again.

I would actually suggest calling the vet. They sometimes forget to tell you when to come back. Different parasites have different life cycles. The first worming takes care of the adults but then you have to repeat worming as the eggs hatch into worms but before they can produce more eggs. This can be several wormings spread out and though a fecal may turn up negative in a couple of weeks it just means there are no eggs but not necessarily no adults. Does this make sense? Check and see if you should be doing a series of wormings before spending the money on another sample.

She told me to come back after 2 weeks. My bunny’s doing fine lately and she’s not producing any more clear jelly poop, so I guess I’d wait until the next appointment Thank you for those information!

Enjoy! She’s a cutie! Don’t forget to bring as fresh a sample as you can get when you go back in case they do want to check a sample that quickly!
