hello all, i am a resent bunny mom and our bunny is very active is always racing back and forth and as my son calls it a crazy moment lol its so cute to watch but i have to wonder if he needs more exercise? i saw in the store a bunny harness for walks i do not have a back yard i can make a encloser or let him lose in but i wondered about a walk? is this a bad idea? and if its a good one is there a way to ease him into it, a good way of doing it to start or something? thanks in advance — heather

          Hello and Welcome!

Harnesses are not recommended for rabbits because of the high risk of injury. If a bunny gets scared and tries to run being restrained by a harness can result in a broken limb, back or neck (the latter two would be fatal). I’ve never thought it was worth the risk.

I think his indoor zooming is enough to keep him exercised. Bunnies only really have “crazy moments” when they’re comfortable and feel safe.

thanks so much i’m glad i asked before we tried it , i won’t bother either then. Its nice to know the zooming is a good thing  i always look at it like he needs more of something like he’s bored or whatever.

Yup, they can have a lot of fun just running around the house!

Something else that can actually happen when you use a harness is the confined feeling makes the rabbit freeze in place, not walk, defeating the purpose of using it for exercise.

thank you i definitely am nixing the harness idea , he is always so active rushing back and forth i was worried that meant he was bored and needed more stimulation.
