On Dec 17th 2013 we lost our first ever bunny Cotton. He was only 5 months old. 🙁 Just in May we got a new bunny. Her name is Lilly. She isn’t anything like Cotton or Nutmeg.
Cotton was sweet and lovable. He let you hold him and he would sleep on you. I just don’t feel like we will find another bunny like him.

Well, you won’t ever find 2 rabbits that are alike.

I think you should just enjoy the way Lilly is and let her be herself – maybe she’s not lovable in a “cuddly” way but that doesn’t mean she is lovable. You just need to love your rabbit for what they are,  not what you want them to be :~)

oh my gosh  my bday is dec 17 and my current bunny is Cotton.   Too uncanny

Yes thats what I am afraid of.  When Cotton passes and i get another bunny it won’t behave like Cotton.  I won’t have time to grieve and change my expectations. Housing doens’t want me getting another bunny.  I will have to do it quickly and it will have to look a lot like Cotton.

I am afraid I will be so used to Cotton I will be dissapointed when it won’t be like him.   He isn’t very cuddly like your Cotton was.  He hops on top his cage to get petted.  He doens’t do it so much lately unless hubby isn’t home.  Don’t know why.  It is dissapointing.

Its hard when they aren’t like your previous  bunny.  I hope the next one I get is  cuddly and likes to be held and petted.  I don’t know tho.  Hard to tell.

You just have to love them the way they are. Maybe go pet Lilly  on the floor or on top of the headrest on the couch try that. Hopefully she  won’t run off when you put her up there like mine does.  Just a suggestion.  Hope it helps.   Perhaps as she gets older she may become more affectionate.

Oh you said Cotton was 5 month when he passed.  Maybe he hadn’t hit the hormonal time yet.  They change then and don;t like to be held etc. for a while.  They change.  Maybe Lilly will settle in at about a year or year and a half and come to like being petted more. And seek it out more. Just be patient with her.

It’s hard not to compare a new bun to a past bun. I did the same thing when we brought Pond home. Both Rue and Nut Puppet were affectionate and loved pets and attention. I was really disappointed when I realized Pond is *not* affectionate. It’s been about a month now (gosh, is that really all?!?), and I’ve fallen in love with Pond and all his…. sass! I had to stop comparing him to Puppet and learn to appreciate him for himself. He’s still not cuddly, but he’s started showing affection in his own way.

You’ve not had Lilly very long, give it some time. Try to find what makes her special. No bun will ever replace the ones you’ve lost, but if you let her, Lilly could help patch the hole in your heart.

Cotton’s cuddliness is what made him special. In time, you will find what is special about your new baby, even if it is not cuddly. Bunnies can have lots of wonderful qualities! You won’t ever be able to replace Cotton, because he was special, but if you enjoy your current bunny for who she is, you will find what makes her special to you, to heal your heart a little.
