I know threads based on rabbit pellets have been posted many times, and everyone has their own opinion based on what is best, but I am looking for some more opinions, thanks!

I am currently feeding Oxbow Essentials to my bonded pair (both around 2 years of age) – now I am not having problems with this pellet (though sometimes their poops seem a little dark – they only get 3 tbs between the 2 of them), so there is no NEED to switch, but I do realize that Oxbow Essentials have plenty of added grain, soy, and sugars.

I then started leaning towards Sherwood Forest, but was unsure how to feel due to it being partly alfalfa based, BUT I also live in Canada, so I am absolutely unwilling to pay $55.00 shipping on a 4.5 lb bag of pellets.

So finally I came across Living World Green Pellets, they are grain, soy, and (added) sugar free, but I wanted opinions on the ingredients/guaranteed analysis, does it look good/any better? Here is the link:

As I said, there is no need to switch, I haven’t had any problems yet with Oxbow, but I am just looking into the best options for my babies.

        Thank you!!

They look like a good enough pellet but what worries me is the peas, potatoes, flax seed, canola oil and yeast. Lots of odd ingredients. Since pellets are such a small part of the diet, and I don’t think they are better than oxbow, I think I would just stick to what they are on.

I think you should stick to Oxbow as well…as LEL says it’s really just a small portion of their diet and oxbow has all the nutrients and stuff that your rabbit’s need. If you want you can look at some of the other oxbow pellets like the organic or natural science.

Honestly if you pick apart every ingredient in the pellet too you are just going to go crazy wondering why it’s there – unless you know the actual science and reasoning behind why they chose what they chose and are an animal nutritionist it’s difficult to judge all those ingredients because you don’t really know why they use what they use – sometimes it’s just for binding or formulating the pellets.

Oxbow is the trusted, go-to brand for most bunny people and the most vet recommended. It’s what I use.

I feed my buns Foster & Smith rabbit food. They absolutely love it and gobble it right up! Best part is that it’s a great price for all the goodies that are in it. I am a sucker for value at a good price lol.

That Dr. Fosters & Smith doesn’t look like a good food because it does have all those extra goodies – that’s not really recommended.

It looks like the LivingWorld pellets wouldn’t be a bad choice but I think if you’re not having problems with Oxbow that I would switch. Oxbow is usually considered the “standard” when it comes to bunny food.

Meatloaf N Bunnito – I agree with Sarita. A plain pellet is what’s recommended. Pellets with extra goodies are considered to be “junk food” pellet. Usually equated to the rabbit version of eating McDonalds everyday.

From the House Rabbit Society: http://www.rabbit.org/journal/5-6/obesity.html
Many pelleted foods sold for rabbits are designed and marketed for the human eye rather than for the health of your rabbit. We see a rabbit food that has colored pieces that look like dried vegetables, and assume it will be a better diet than plain green pellets. This is not the case. Many of the pieces of what appear to be dried carrots; papaya, etc. are actually fried foods, which add far too much fat to the diet. The term gourmet usually means a rich food, high in fat. Beware of foods trumpeting variety as a desirable quality. Choose a pelleted food that contains only plain green pellets…
