Has anyone tried these? They’re supposed to be compressed hay. Wondering if these are more of a chew thing and if they would be good to have in a carrier or emergency kit.

Oxbow Harvest Stacks are compressed hay but they expand.

I’m not sure on expiration but it might be something you can keep in an emergency pack, use before expiration, and replace.

MoveDiagonally I really like the idea of keeping them for emergencies. It, also, made me think that they could be used to take on vet trips. Thanks for starting the thread Jackrabbit and the suggestion MoveDiagonally. =]

I have never bought them as I thought they are way too expensive for a pile of hay, but keeping them for an emergency kit is a brilliant idea!

I think it would be a great idea to keep them on hand for emergencies as they would fit nicely in an emergency kit bag. I’ve tried them, though, and for everyday, I find them expensive and messy. They claim to reduce mess but the hay pieces, at least in the box I tried, were very small and my buns just made a huge mess with them. Much prefer the bags. Cheaper too.

I haven’t tried them, but I was at a friend’s house the other day and she had given a haystack to her bunny. There was a terrible mess on the floor, with hay spread all over. Her rabbit had been picking up the haystack and flinging it around. I thought about trying them but was hesitant due to the cost. After seeing that mess, I think I will just stick with the bagged hay.

Yup, my buns would pick up the chunks too and throw them around, making an even bigger crumbly mess.

My buns eat a ton of hay so I wouldn’t look to them as a primary source. I haven’t heard anyone mention quality issues (just messy!) so it sounds like using them as carrier hay and emergency kit hay would work fine.

                      Thanks everyone!
