Hi everyone, bit of a health question…

My 3 month old bun peanut lives with me at work (im in the royal air force so live away from home during the week) and I came back to work this morning to find a sign on the door to the block, saying that a dog in the block has kennel Cough. The dog has now been removed from the block but that kennel Cough is contageous.

Could this spread to peanut? He only ever stays in my room to which nobody else has access. Any advice on next steps?

I believe it is an airborne respiratory illness not unlike a flu… Your bun could catch it but given she is almost in a form of quarantine she has a much better chance of staying safe… You will need to be scrupulous about washing your hands and changing clothes before you handle her as I assume the dog and it’s owner would have had access to the same common areas as you do… I would do a thorough laundering and make sure everything is washed and that surfaces are wiped down and you keep some bacterial hand gel close by.. Though being in military accommodation I am guessing that it would be a well cleaned and maintained environment any way…

Thank you, all sheets and towels are in the wash. The common areas are cleaned and hoovered by cleaners on a daily basis. Will get them to come in and thoroughly clean my room for me as well I think. Peanut seems okay at the moment and there’d is a vets just across the road if needed…..fingers crossed!!!
