Hello, I am watching a friend’s bunny while she is in Germany for three weeks and I noticed today (the second day he has been with me) that he has not pooped as much as he did yesterday. He is acting normal and has been eating normally as well but several sites have made me nervous that this is something to be alarmed by! Additionally, I noticed a moderately thick yellow liquid on the carpet this morning, but again, he has been acting normal all day! Any advice would help! Thanks!

I wish all sitters and caretakers were like you… To seek help so quickly shows that your friend chose well… So far what you have described is a bunny who is feeling disruption at changes… They can get quite precious when their routine is altered…
It is not unusual for rabbit pee to vary in colour and density or for them to have some tummy upset… It was great that you noticed so quickly… You will need to watch him… If you can change his litter tray regularly so you can monitor that he is continuing to poop and pee normally… If the pee starts to get any thicker it could be a sign of sludge which can be a problem but not as big a problem as stasis which is what happens when their gut shuts down…
I would make sure he has lots of fresh hay and a nice moist salad (if that is what he normally has) give him some space so he can adapt to his current environment… If he starts to eat less and the poop is getting smaller and less frequent it would be an idea to get to a vet quickly, a gut motility med early may prevent him going into full stasis which is when it gets bad… Look for things like tooth grinding and huddling into a loaf that is an indication of pain… If he will let you and he does not get stressed you could get down on the floor with him and gently feel his tummy to see if it is hard or soft…

I agree, what a wonderful sitter!
Small changes in the amount of poop are normal, and may vary from day to day. However, anything major that is not contributed to a change in diet can be a sign of gut slowdown. I would make sure that he has plenty of hay and water, and wait. He is probably stressed. If you are still worried tomorrow, you may want to call the vet.
Are you sure the pee is actually thick and does not just appear that way? Bunnies can have urine in a rainbow of colours and thicknesses, so I wouldn’t worry too much unless this odd pee continues.
