I may have laughed inappropriately but she was warned.

A woman and a boy who was 4-5 years old came to visit Monty yesterday. I knew it was a bad idea as soon as she walked her smarty pants attitude in my house.

I took them into my room where Monty stays and he was lounging in the cage. I gave her all of the information about him. I specifically told her he does NOT allow anyone to touch him when he is inside of his cage. And that he would not be officially available for adoption until he was old enough to be neutered.

The first thing out of her mouth is “Why are you telling me all of this? I know how to take care of a rabbit so we are just going to interact with him and you can sit quietly if you please.” … Seriously?

They sit and watch him for a few minutes. And so I say that I will get him out so they can see him run around and play. She says “I can do it I had a rabbit when I was a kid”. So I tell her no that like I said he doesn’t like anyone touching him and has a ramp to come out on his own. She literally looks at me and scoffs and says “He’s not going to bite me look at him he is just looking around and standing on his back feet and everything”.

Now because of an incident that happened a few years ago with a foster cat I record everyone who visits a foster animal. So I tell her I am officially suggesting she not touch him and do not open his cage and if she does while I am getting his ramp that she is responsible for any injuries that happen to her, her child, or the rabbit. I went out of the door to get the ramp in the hallway I hear her open his cage I heard him growl and her say “Come on little bunny it’s time to go bye bye”. Then she screeched.

I went back into the room and of course he bit her. Her kid looks at her and says “See mommy this is why you listen to adults”. LOL! She was FUMING!

I of course being immature am giggling under my breath. She whips out her phone and calls the shelter and ‘tattles’ on me. She is on speaker since she apparently thought I was going to get into trouble. The supervisor of the shelter asks “Were you informed that he bites in the cage and did she advise you not to touch him?” she says yes and he says “Then why did you decide to reach into his cage?”. I lost it I was laughing so hard at this time I couldn’t breathe. Then she sealed the deal with never adopting a rabbit there by saying “Maybe if you smacked him when he bites I wouldn’t be bleeding right now!” I ‘politely’ requested that she vacate my house.

Sounds like her son is a lot smarter than her. Serves her right. Don’t worry, I would have been laughing too.

Haha! She deserved that. I have a feeling he did that because he wants to stay with you.

Too bad he didn’t bite her harder!

Sonn, since you are his foster mom, can you prevent someone like that from adopting him? While we all want to see him in a loving forever home, the thought of someone smacking him because they don’t understand him just breaks my heart. Any chance you’ll keep him permanently? It must be so hard for you folks that foster bunnies to love them and take care of them and then have to give them up when someone adopts them (even giving them up to a great home would still be hard).

Better just keep him, I suppose. lol.

I can’t believe she didn’t listen to you. She doesn’t deserve Monty. Her kid has the right idea though.

I do have some say in who he goes to but all potential adopters are allowed to visit him if the shelter approves. But I have never encountered someone that rude who wanted to adopt an animal I am fostering. Even if she didn’t get bit I would have more than likely recommended that she not adopt him. The kid was smart and didn’t even attempt to go near his cage when I asked him not to.

I do not tolerate violence in any way when it comes to animals if she would have smacked him I would have been tempted to throw her out of a window. Someone smacked one of my dogs when I was in high school and ended up with a broken hand. Just don’t do it.

Monty just wants to stay with me so he can secretly plot my demise with my cat.

Whether he stays or not will depend on Enki once Monty is old enough to be neutered. I have ‘dibs’ on him should I decide to adopt him. I have a love/hate relationship with fostering. I love that they aren’t sitting in a shelter but I hate getting attached and then watching them leave. I have 4 foster kittens and their mom right now that I am getting way way way too attached to.

I hadn’t really thought about it all that much until this thread, but I definitely now have an even deeper respect for you foster parents.

I do hope you keep the “evil” little cute fuzzybutt!

What the son said after Monty bit the mom is priceless! I’m sure a better potential adopter will come along for Monty. One that listens to adults lol

LOL Ms. Smartypants – love it!

I think if she knew it all then she would know to listen if she did indeed have rabbits when she was a child. Sounds like her kid was the smart one of the two :~)
