I would really love to know what breed my Renie is. When I adopted him from HRS, they said he was an English Spot, but there’s just too much difference in his spot pattern to be full ES. I’ve been told he could be mixed with Netherland Dwarf. Does anybody have any ideas?

dwarf and spot? what’s his weight for him to be considered dwarf?

he just looks like a mixed breed, I consider Rodan (the non- dutch rabbit in my siggy) to be an English Spot mix, he’s pretty big, over 8lbs…haven’t weighed him in a while. but, I think true english spot’s get huge.

There is not really any way to know for sure-your guess is as likely as ours. He obviously has some ES in him, but what else, I have no idea.
            Anyways, he is adorable!

He does look like an ES and possible Nethie mix, what’s his weight, do you know?

Not meeting the breed standard perfectly doesn’t mean a rabbit isn’t that breed. It’s important to remember that the breed standard is an ideal that breeders should strive for. In most litters though,a couple of the bunnies (or cat, or dog, or whatever) will be considered “show quality” but most will be labeled and sold as “pet quality.”

As an example, there is a dutch rabbit whose human regularly posts here with a spot in his white area. He is still a pure bred dutch, he just doesn’t meet breed standard. (The spot is super cute, it looks like he has a button.)

So, it is possible your bunny really is an english spot even though his spot pattern isn’t perfect and he’s a under weight. Or he could be a mix, or he could just be a mutt that happens to have spots.

I’d just stick with english spot.

He doesn’t weigh much: only 3.5 lbs. at 2 yrs old. I was also looking at some pics of some mini Rex buns and they looked pretty similar. He could be mixed with that instead of Nethie maybe?

Rex is mostly about fur texture. They come in many colors. If he is rex he would have very short dense velvety fur. It’s hard to always tell in photos, but his fur looks more like normal fuzzy bunny fur, neither super fluffy like an angora, nor extra short.

Looking at the photo, if he’s only 3.5 pounds, you must have very small feet. I would have guessed between 5 and 6 based on relative size to your feet.

What a gorgeous bun! I definitely see Rex there. His fur looks pretty plushy.

Probably mini Rex or a Rex mix. They come in a broken pattern like that. From what I understand, English Spot is really rare. They have a very distinct spot pattern on the side. A broken pattern, like those seen in Rex rabbits, more closely resembles Reno.
