This past weekend We lost Oswyn to progressive cancer…She hadn’t really been acting odd, but I took her to the emergency vet on Saturday after she refused a strawberry. I figured she just needed her teeth filed down again..Turns out she had lung cancer that had spread through her body.

Well, in our grief, we adopted a baby bunny. He seems to be doing fine, but he’s only 6 weeks, so I want to give him benebac just to make sure. He’s eating What was left of Oswyn’s Oxbow, and timothy hay. (We can’t find alfalfa.)

Is the Oxbow regular rabbit food okay? I couldn’t find a young bunny version anywhere except online.

The benbac dosage says 1/8 tsp for >1/4lb bunny…do I just sprinkle it on his food? Do I mix it with water? The directions weren’t very clear. We’ve always adopted older bunnies, so I have no idea what I’m doing here. I know he shouldn’t have greens for another six weeks…but is letting him play in the grass (in an enclosed pen, of course) okay? Is the grass the same as greens?

        Any help is appreciated. <3

He doesn’t need the benebac, but if you want to give it to him, I would put it on his food. Although I don’t know if that would work as there is nothing for it to stick to.
He should be fine with the regular adult food, although if there is any way to get some alfalfa I would give that too. I would say grass is kind of the same as greens, maybe small amounts only right now.
So sorry for your loss of Oswyn, but congrats on your new bun!

I agree there is no need for benebac – better to have good food, a clean environment and your love and she’ll be fine.

I’m sorry for your loss of Oswyn.
