So I have a neutered male lop that’s been living with me since last September, He’s little over a year old. I am trying to bond him with a in tact female that’s only 3 maybe 4 months old. Things started great in the bath tub, there was a little humping by my resident male, but other then that they snuggled right up. It’s been about a week and I thought I would try to let them run around in my spare bedroom to see how things went. After about 5 minutes my male charged the female and was grunting and chasing her. There was a fight but only a few seconds long before I grabbed my male and separated them. He pulled massive clumps of hair off of her and after checking her or injuries I put them back in their cages for the day. I figured it was a little soon for them to be in HIS territory so soon. Now I put them on my counter top and he is still nipping at her and pulling hair.

Do I keep trying different places to keep things neutral? He seems to be very territorial, and he has free range in our apartment so everything seems to be his territory.. I don’t want to keep putting them together and having her be afraid of the male. Im stuck!

Bonding can really only take place with two spayed/neutered rabbits. I wouldn’t continue trying to bond until the female is spayed. After she’s spayed it will take 4-6 weeks for her hormones to level out. At that point I would try to introduce them again in a neutral area.
