        Hello everyone!

I’ve just recently got my first bunny, he’s done a great job adjusting to the new environment and seems overall really happy! The only problem we’ve been having is litter training him. He’s only six weeks old so maybe that is the problem however I’ve read online and through binky bunny that it is harder to train young rabbits but not impossible!

I don’t mind so much where he goes while he is in his cage because it’s his cage but sometimes I’ll pick up his poop and wipe up his pee, (usually he goes pee in his litter box) and I move it in to the litter box in hopes of giving him a better understanding as to where his droppings should go. He’s really good about not going pee while he is wandering around my room but sometimes he’ll go poop. When I have him in my bed he almost always goes pee and always poops. I’ve tried bringing the litter box with him while he’s in my bed so he can just go on and hop in there if he has to go but that has had no effect at all.

Do you guys have any advice for me? Should I just keep being persistent about moving his droppings into his litter box? Do you think he’s to young to be litter trained?

        Thanks for your time!! image

It sounds like you are doing it all right. Bunnies do like to pee on beds because it smalls so strongly of human. They want to mark it as theirs. I would say keep doing what you are doing and perhaps keep him off the bed. It should work eventually, but be prepared that he may loose all his litter habits when he reaches maturity, and at that time you may choose to neuter him to help with this.

Keep putting the poops in the litterbox so he gets the idea to go there. The droppings are probably territorial and he wants to mark that area as his. Wipe up the pee puddles with a paper towel and disenfect it. Put the urine soaked paper towel in his litterbox.
I would highly reccomend getting him neutuered when he is of age.

Nothing to add really, LEL and Mocha are right. I just wanted to say that I think it’s so sweet and understanding that you put his litterbox in bed with you and your bunny! Only a very caring bunny parent would do that! Give it time and a neuter and things will improve. You’ll likely still have a few “presents” left for you even after that, but believe it or not you probably won’t mind at that point!

Sorry to be a party pooper TK, but if your bun is anything like my Henry (my apologies now, ha ha ha ha…..), till he gets neutered he will most likely mark your bed with pee and POOP. We tried EVERYTHING including the litterbox on the bed, but because he was ‘marking’ us and our bed as his, nothing short of keeping him off the bed till he was neutered worked. And wait for your little guy to start ‘spraying’!!! YUCK! You’ll stop complaining about the wee puddles and poop quick smart cause the spraying (IF he does) goes EVERYWHERE!
So, on the chance your boy is a good bunny (lol!), keep trying with what your doing and the suggestions made above by LEL and Mocha, but if your boy is a bit mischievous like mine, the only solution will be to keep him off the bed till he gets neutered. I know disappointing – we tried to keep Henry off the bed/out of the room and just couldn’t do it (SUCKER’S! lol!) so we endured changing our bedding every day till he was neutered.
Neutering worked a treat (your little guy is still too young to be neutered), but at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel knowing you don’t have to endure this for the rest of his life (thank goodness). You just gotta get through between now and then…. good luck TK – Cheers.

Gee, I thought I was the first one to respond to this yesterday. I’ll try again. First of all, your bunny is adorable! So is that pink bunny you inserted, how did you do that?

Next, I’m Party Pooper #2 (or tried to be #1) because I know people want to spend oodles of time with their new bunnies, but I think you need to keep your bunny in an area that’s easy to clean up. I’m of the understanding that baby bunnies aren’t supposed to leave Mom until they are 8 weeks old, so yours sounds awfully young.

Next, I’m a big believer in rabbits finding their spot to go and they’ll be fine. But as long as it’s not neutered (way too young, of course) this spot will likely change. The pooping will definitely continue and you will soon drive yourself insane trying to get perfection out of an unneutered rabbit. Probably some people manage to litter train unneutered rabbits, but I’m sure the pooping will not stop as he won’t be able to stop himself from dropping them along the way. You’ll be amazed how fast he turns around once he’s neutered. Maybe I’m just lazy, but I take my young ones out for shorter periods of time or keep them where they can be cleaned up after without too much angst. I would be curious to know how many people manage to train their bunnies before they are neutered. Maybe with the urine. But dropping poops? No way do I think he will stop.

Sounds like he’s got a great home. Enjoy every minute, but don’t beat yourself up over the litter training this young
