Hi there, I  just got a male lionhead bunny from the petstore, he is a beautiful bunny, with himilayan colours. I don’t think he old enough to be away from his mother, but he was there and I wanted to save him, he had poop and hay stuck to his talk and feet and he is sneezing a lot and it looks like he has a runny nose aswell. He is also not hoping around, he is just standing in the cage, and his head is moving back and forth slightly. Im not sure what is going on with him, I hope someone can help me figure out how to help him. thank you

It’s hard to know as this could be many things. I would highly recommend that you get him into see a vet as soon as possible for a check up including a fecal test for coccidia. This is going to be your best way to figure out how to help him at this point :~)

As for not moving around, it could be that he is getting acclimated and is in sensory overload as everything is new to him.

I agree with Sarita. I would find a rabbit savvy vet and have a physical exam and fecal test done.

Yup. We could throw out a lot of ” maybe this and maybe that” but bottom line is that rabbit needs medical care and that pet store needs a nasty phone call at the very least!

Thank you, I did call the petstore and the insisted he was 3 month old. There is just no way. Either way the vet appointment is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Thank you for all your help.

Why do you think he’s not old enough? What you described sounds like an unclean, unhealthy and/or nervous rabbit. These aren’t signs of age.

Good luck with bun at the vet! I also had a similar experience with my pet store bun, Nora, who we also grabbed because she had no food, was skinny as all heck, and was sneezing with discharge. <3 Hope your baby is okay!

Just saw the head moving back and forth – could be a sign of EC but my bun Nora is also a Lionhead with gray eyes and she does REW scanning. It’s something a lot of red-eyed buns do, scanning back and forth. A lot of people think the REWs have bad eyesight and this is what could cause it? Definitely something to get checked out by the vet as he seems to have some other illnesses as well.

Definitely make sure the vet knows about the head thing, but there is a rabbit at the shelter where i volunteer that has the same little head move. he had slight damage to his brain, but he doesn’t act different at all, except for the moving. and his head is a little longer than his siblings. Actually, if I had room he would be the first I would adopt
