Hello, my rabbit had his teeth trimmed down 4 weeks ago Thursday. He seems to be in pain with them again . I was just wondering if anyone has had their bunnys back teeth taking out? It’s so expensive to get his teeth trimmed every month and hate the thought of him being in pain this often!! If any body has been though this with there rabbit and has a good dental vet able to do this could you please let me know.
        Thank you..

Not the back teeth – are his teeth misaligned? I would not intentionally remove the molars but it is common to remove the incisors.

          How old is your rabbit?

Many bunnies have this issue. Teeth trimming is expensive, but it is necessary. You may be able to lengthen the amount of time between teeth trimming by tweaking the diet, or ask your vet for other suggestions. It probably isn’t a good idea to remove the back teeth. Is he getting pain meds?

No that I’m aware of, when they trimmed them down they didn’t see they were misaligned? He is only 1 well Alfie is very naughty and doesn’t eat he’s hay.. I give him a little amount of pellets to make sure he does eat hay but he still isn’t keen on it!! No pain meds at the minute, he’s still himself running around the garden but doesn’t want to eat his pellets and started dribbling at the mouth again I’ve given him grass to help keep his back teeth down but maybe I need to give him more. Any diet suggestions?

                Does he stay outside?

How much pellets do you give him?

Yeah he’s outside. I only fed him once a day with pellets. Probably about 3 desert spoon fulls? Is that ok?

How about hay? Does he have unlimited access to hay?

                    Is he outside free roaming?

I would increase the hay – not sure exactly how you can monitor his hay intake in the garden though…are you able to tell how much he eats?

What else besides pellets and hay do you offer him?

He has hay as bedding so can’t offer him anymore, also bought him the most expensive hay just to see if he preferred it but he doesn’t well that’s the thing I can’t tell how much he is eating.. But his bedding doesn’t seem to be going down? He loves greens so I give him some of them not every day as the vet said not too because he needs to be hungry for his hay. I’m now taking Alfie to the vets to see what’s wrong with his mouth.. Thanks a lot for your help
