Patch is a rescue rabbit from the shelter we got him in March and he’s been really friendly and happy after his initial ‘bedding in’ week or so. So a few weeks ago we got him chipped and neutered and it was stressful but he bounced right back and was fine and back to himself- his litter habits massively improved and he remained friendly and inquisitive as he had been before. He was using his tray, loving his rubs and food, and all good.
So, last few days he seems very distant. Not sure what’s up with him. We’ve panicked before when he was a bit quiet and spent a small fortune to find out he was basically fine. That time he wasn’t moving a lot or eating so I’m still glad we took him in but can’t spend that much each time there’s a small worry if he’s OK!
Right now he’ll run into the room if we really encourage him with pellets, but generally it’s greens and hay for Patch though. So he’s eating and moving and drinking fine so I’m unconvinced it’s a medical thing.
Anyway- he is just sitting around all the time now. Doesn’t seemed bothered about coming for attention and not interested if we go to him. Food still motivates him bit he’s not as inquisitive or adventurous. He has a spot in front of the kitchen door where he’ll just sit hunched up and stare at the space behind the sofa for ages. His litter habits have got lost for the most part.
Lives in the house, no bonded partner bit he’s always been like that in his previous home too.
        No change in environment.
Just want him to be happy! He doesn’t seem himself.
Thanks in advance for any ideas/advice. (I just joined the forum)

Welcome – it sounds like he’s just comfortable and settled in to me.

My rabbit is generally like this and only active certain parts of the day but for the most part, he’s pretty much like what Patches sounds like.

It COULD be a time of day thing. like if my bunny is up longer then normal during the night, she would be more to herself in the morning/afternoon. Usually early afternoon/dinner time she is reserved and more of i want to be alone and sleep mode

              OK thanks guys.
He seems a bit more himself now… Still a bit on-off with using his tray but I think he’s OK! Probably just tired. We all work different hours in this house so he’s probably just getting disturbed now and them. Sometimes he’s playful, sometimes more into chilling!
              Thank you!
