My 8 month old rabbit used to use her litter box until recently. When we took her in, she would drop a few pellets here and there, but she only peed in one place. But recently, she’s started to do her “business” everywhere as soon as we let her out of the cage. Even inside the cage, there’s always more pellets outside the litter box rather than inside it and she also pees everywhere. We’ve also noticed she’s been far more affective as of late, could it be related to the sudden change in her littering habits?

What do you mean by effective? Is she spayed?

That’s what I was gonna ask. Pepper was a poop machine before she was spayed, especially around my husband, her daddy, she’d run circles around his feet leaving a circle of poops behind her! Even since she’s been fixed, not 1 single poop out of the litter box.

Sounds like a spay issue if that is not done yet

When you say “affective”, I’m wondering if that was a typo for affectionate. That was the way I read your post.

If so, the loss of litter habits and “affectionate” behavior is very common in female rabbits when they are unspayed and reach sexual maturity (starting at about 5 months old or so…)

If this is the case and she is unspayed, that is the first step. Has she had an initial exam with your rabbit vet yet?

Yes, that is what I meant, thank you. She hasn’t had an exam with her vet yet, but after reading several similar stories of the same behavior, we’ve come to the conclusion that it has to be because she’s unspayed.
We will take this to a professional and see what to do from here, thank you for your help.

Very good! Please keep us posted on how everything goes with your vet. Do you already know of a rabbit vet in your area, or do you need assistance with locating one?

I live very close to a vet, so that will not be necessary. Thank you, nonetheless.
