        Hi All,

I’m new here, But I have owned many rabbits in the past a few years back, I had always fed them horrible pellets like peters and random pellets from stores but now I know how important the diet is and I want to get the best possible diet for my new bun buns.

I haven’t gotten my bunny yet, I will be picking her up when I get everything for her but I am planning on feeding Oxbow young rabbit pellets but right now they are a little to expensive so I picked up some Vetafarm rabbit pellets to try, I did notice they had Lucerne in them so I was thinking they would be fine up until she is 6 months and then swap to Oxbow Adult Rabbit pellets.

Anyway I do live in Australia so its super hard to find good quality pellets and the Vetafarm has less ingredients but the analysis is similar to Oxbow

        Ingredients: fescue, lucerne, oat fibre.

Whole grains: wheat, soybean and oats

        Vitamins: A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12, C, D3, E, H & K

Minerals Calcium, cobalt, copper, iodine, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus potassium, selenlum, sodim, sulphur & Zinc

        Analysis:

        Min Crude Protein: 13%

        Min Fibre: 16%

        Min Crude Fat: 3%

        Max Salt (NaCl): 0.5%

If anyone knows any other great quality pellets and preferably cheaper too (but I am willing to pay more for good quality) for both young and adult rabbits in Australia and if there are places in South Australia that sell them feel free to mention!

I don’t live in Australia so I don’t know many food brands there.
Pellets aren’t necessary for rabbits to have, but since she is not done growing I would give them to him.
          I highly reccomend Oxbow.
This food looks okay. Oxbows fiber content is 22% and this one is “only” at 16%. I buy 10 pounds of Oxbow food for my bunnies at a time and it lasts me a little over a month. If you look at different places to buy it, it can be a little cheaper. The 10 pound back at my local petstore is about $22 and I found a bag on petstore supplier for $15!
Burgess Excel is also good. Oxbow is the best rabbit food that I know of and I know that it is a little pricey but I think that it’s worth it.

The food is ok, it does contain a few too many grains, which are usually fattening and bad for bunnies. The fiber, however, is very low. I would only feed it until you can get your hands on some oxbow, and make sure your bunny is eating lots of hay.
I hope AndHenry comments on this thread, as she lives in Australia and feeds oxbow, so hopefully she could give you some insight on where to purchase good food.

              Okay Thankyou for the reply’s,
The Oxbow around here costs close to $40+ a bag, I will defiantly be feeding her Oxbow but for the times where I just cant afford Oxbow I was wanting something to feed them until I can afford a new bag of Oxbow, not necessarily cheaper, but pellets that come in smaller proportions so it was be as expensive, as the Oxbow at my local pet store only comes in one size, I was a little wary of the fibre content as I know it should be higher.
I have only found 1 store that sells oxbow food products near me, another store occasionally sells the hay rolls but only Vetafarm as pellets, and we don’t have burgess in Australia

              Thanks for the help again

Wow, $40 a bag is a little much, isn’t it! Have you tried online?

I know! its so expensive over here, online is cheaper per bag but adding the postage its pretty much the same, does anyone know any online stores that stock Oxbow and ship to Australia?

Didn’t know the all famed Oxbow pellets only have 22% crude fibre. The Excel tasty nuggets have 39% crude fibre+vitamins for adult rabbits, and 36% crude fibre+amino acid for junior rabbits.

Update: Crap. Just noticed Excel has 39% ‘beneficial’ fibre and 19% crude fibre.

                      Hello Mittsu the Rabbit,

I don’t know if you still check on this forum, but I just wanted to let you know that “My Pet Warehouse” sell Oxbow Adult Rabbit Pellets for about $26 and postage is free once the order is over $50. Hope this helps 🙂
