I have a 10 pound rabbit. I LOVE HER TO BITS!

since she is 10 pounds she goes to the bathroom a lot! she is very good with drinking a lot of water…

I’m scooping out almost half of her litter box everyday

saying that.. I really would like to start composting all of whats in her litter box.

        I use Yesterdays News Original…

so, can I compost the entire tray? do I just throw it all in the yard by a tree? or is there a way to do it?

        Thanks!

          I compost mine.

You can use a compost bin or just make a pile on the ground. My compost “outgrew” the bin, so I now have a pile I keep covered with a layer of plastic or a tarp weighted down with rocks.

I water it with water from my fish tank when I do my water changes, it need to be kept damp. I also throw my old hay and veggie peels etc in there. Turn it with a spade once a week or so. Throw some handfuls of dirt in there to begin with to get the things started.

do you have a plan for the compost when you are done? If you don’t garden you can offer it to neighbors. I have a large rabbit as well, and things can “pile up” very quickly!

Worms can also hurry compost along. You can add some from your yard, or throw in a container from the bait store. They will reproduce quickly, you don’t need to buy a large amount .

Yes, I garden. So… do you have to wait before you put it in the dirt in your garden? like.. you can’t just throw it on top of the dirt and use it immediately? or you have to let it marinate? haha.

Rabbit poop is actually one of the few things that don’t have to compost first. However, since it has paper, you can do what we do, we have a large wooden box with a hole in front (so the compost can come out the bottom) and top, and you just throw it in there. You can also add veggie leftovers, like Linette said, and fishtank water, if you have any fish. We also toss a bunch of our weeds in.

You can use the litter/poop mixture how it is as a fertilizer, but if you want compost, you need to let it “marinate,” haha.

A little late to reply, but I took a large trash bin and drilled a bunch of holes in it (top, bottom, sides). It has a lid that twists on or off. I just roll it around the yard every couple of days and it works great! Things are decomposing pretty quickly. It is rabbit litter/poop and various foods that have gone bad from my own kitchen.

I will routinely throw handfuls of bunny poop on our veggie garden in the spring/summer. I don’t do it regularly, so don’t really know how much of a difference it makes, but what the heck… I have an abundance!
