I just got my rabbit Larry two days ago. He eats his greens and a little bit of hay (starting to eat more hay) when he eats his hay it sounds like he es grinding his teeth a little. But what I’m worried about is every so often I hear h I’m grinding his teeth for about 1-3 seconds. Sometimes it’s a little loud sometimes it’s quiet. He was out for floor time yesterday and binkyed about six times. Should I be concerned or is he just purring?

Hehe someone just posted on this issue :3.

It really depends on the context, if it looks like a struggle to eat, then there might be pain from eating.

If they keep chowing down like no tomorrow it is more like “talking” while eating (I read somewhere that it is like “muttering to themselves”)

Mine always does it, her “chattering” is the only time her teeth grind is somewhat loud, when she purrs from pets you can barely hear it.

Usually a grinding from pain is accompanied by a reluctance to move and sitting in a meatloaf position.

You always want to take a new bunny to a vet to get a baseline exam and see if you like the vet for the future. You want one that is experienced with exotics. So, at this stage you could take bunny to a vet to get a check up, teeth examined, and make sure it’s just purring and nothing else going one.

Does the purring sound kind of like teeth chattering?

                    purring is very soft. (Usually)

When mine does it I need the t.v. off, no outside noises, etc to hear it. Sometimes she sleeps in meatloaf and does it off and on (made a thread on that) most of the time I hear it when I am going to sleep (no noise), i think she dreams or something..

But the hay thing is different, she can “crunch” and chatter loudly and it was not to long ago I had her filling done because of misalignment. Just something she does I suppose.

                    This is mine purring:

(very hard to hear but you can see her mouth moving)

guess I should upload her eatin hay to get an idea of the difference XD

See when she goes to find a new piece she still “chews” or “grinds”
