My Holland lop was neutered about two weeks ago.  He is almost a year old and since he has been recovering I’m noticing him being more destructive.  H’s been obsessing on this trim in my bathroom and now I keep the door closed or he will chew it.  He will scratch at the flooring sometimes as well.   He was never  been a chewer before and was wondering if you guys have had similar behavior issues with your buns?  It might be just his age too And if it is, will he grow out of it?

        Thanks!

My girl is a chewer/digger, but I notice that she is generally less destructive the more out-of-enclosure run time she gets. She also became less destructive when I updated her from a cage to a NIC condo. A variety of toys in the room and in her enclosure help to curb destructive behavior as well. For the times when I can’t gently dissuade her from destroying something, I squirt her midsection with a squirt bottle I got from the dollar store. (And then I dry her off.)

The BEST thing I found to deter chewing are tunnels for them to run through or hide in. I read somewhere that they chew through wires and at walls to try and clear a path so that they can escape to a safer place in case of emergency. If she’s digging or chewing at an obstacle or wall, I just place the tunnel at the problem area. It fixes the problem for my bun most of the time.

It may just be his hormones are really surging right now, sometimes it takes a few weeks for them to settle down after a neuter.

Ok thanks for the reply, Yeah he is pretty much a free range bunny so luckily he isn’t chewing anything but the bathroom trim. I just keep the door closed now but hopefully it’s just hormones and he will calm down. I did think he was acting a bit obsessive right after his neuter so fingers crossed!

              thank you

It has been almost two months since I had my Bun neutered. He NEVER chewed on anything in the house prior to his neuter. Now he chews the carpet and attempts to get at cords. I too thought it was left over hormones but two months later he is still at it.
