I have had Gibbles for two months now. He is doing what I have read that most bunnies do the opposite of … He was very loving and always wanted to be on or by us at first now he wants nothing to do with us. He used to love to be held and cuddled and wanted to be pet and to just lay with my boyfriend and I. Now he is always running away from us and always just wants to be alone … he doesn’t like us touching him any more, no more holding him, he is always running, biting, and growling, will he grow out of this?? What do we need to do to help him be how he was again?? I have read up on so many articles, emailed so many experts, and all I see is that with males especially dwarfs this starts around 3 months but does not say how long it can go until …

As babies who have just left their mothers, a new bun may still be looking for snuggles, so they tend to allow some handling like carrying and petting. As they get older, get more used to their surroundings and feel more confident, they don’t feel the NEED for protection anymore. It’s completely normal for them to want to be alone to explore and “run their own lives”, lol! Don’t try to force affection, don’t try to pick him up when he is clearly telling you he doesn’t like it – forcing will just make him learn he can’t trust you to leave him alone and may make him avoid you or become aggressive to keep you away. Just be calm around him, let him nibble treats out of your hand without asking anything in return and he will learn you are not a threat and you can slowly try to pat him and soon he will come to you and ask for pats! Just have patience… he’s perfectly normal.  Neutering will also make a world of difference! His hormones are kicking in and as a male his instinct is to defend his territory from any competitors or threats. Once he is a few weeks post neuter he will calm down. Just let him do everything on HIS schedule…

Hi! Cheri is giving some real good advice! I would certainly consider neutering him if I were you.

I’m going through a similar thing right now. Frodo started acting aloof en didn’t want any petting anymore (he’s a holland lop). His skin would litteraly cringe when we tried touching him. Next tuesday he will be neutered for two weeks. At first he was still acting like: ‘get away from me!’. But two weeks further and he’s nibbling food out of our hands. He stands still when we pet him, and yesterday he crawled up on the sofa with me and just flopped over next to me to watch TV. He also crawled over me and sat on me to beg for yummy pellets.

Sounds like you have a real good relationship with him. That bunny is still in there!
