I have a 15 w/o male mini lion lop who I’ve had since 8 weeks. He’s very happy, playful and friendly – and sometimes even very cuddly! My partner and I have been waiting for him to hit his bunny puberty and have been dreading the naughtiness that ensues around this time, but so far nothing much has occurred. The naughtiest he’s been is he’s sprayed three times – twice at around 13 weeks and once today at 15 weeks. We’re wondering if there is more naughty behaviour to follow or if we’ve been quite lucky and avoided it all? I’ve never had a bunny from a young age before so this is quite new to me.

Has anyone had any experience with bunnies who haven’t been hormonal during this time? Or is this just the calm before the storm? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Umm, he might start becoming really aggressive and territorial.

Get him neutuered at 4-6 months of age.

Yup. I doubt you’ll get out of it that easily. It would be so unfair! Don’t wait for trouble. Get him neutered when he’s of age

I agree. If he’s already sprayed, he’ll likely continue to do that (and more frequently) until he’s neutered.

Some boys do not display a ton of hormonal behavior. It isn’t something that you see too often, but there are certainly boy bunnies like that. At 15 months, I think it is still too early to tell. And as others have pointed out, if he has already started spraying here and there then it could increase as time goes by. Whether or not to neuter is a decision that should be based on numerous factors. The health risk isn’t the same for boys as it is for girls, but behavior can definitely be an issue. If there is even the slightest chance you would like him to have a friend in the future, then neutering would be a must. In that case, it is always better to do it while they are still young.

I wouldn’t consider yourselves “lucky” if he’s already spraying! I would have completely freaked out about urine being squirted all over my house! He’s only 4 months old so you are JUST entering the beginning stages. Glad y’all are being so calm… you’re good bunny parents.
