I have a five year old male holland lop and am going to be taking in a 1.5 year old female holland lop. She became abandoned to a garage when the owners decided to get a dog and so I offered to take her. Both bunnies are fixed. I realize I have a lot to read about bonding, but am hoping that because they are two holland lops, male and female, that this will go a little easier.

I am just wondering what experiences you all have had with bonding two holland lops???

The breed doesn’t really matter. I have two happily bonded bunnies that are totally different breeds (cinnamon and lionhead mix). First put there cages next to each other to see how they get along. Biting is fighting, but not lunging. Next, put them in an area where both of them have never been. Give them a session together each day. Start at 5 minutes and higher it up each day until they are fully bonded. You can put them on the washer while it’s on, and take them on a “peaceful” car ride.

Please tell me how this goes!

Congrats on the new bun and how wonderful of you to take her in so she can live a happy life inside the house as opposed to living alone in a garage!

Some things to note before you start bonding- Wait a couple days (perhaps a week) before starting your first bonding session because your new bun has no idea where she is, who you are, and all of a sudden she’s meeting a new rabbit. It’s a lot for a little creature to take in, so give her a few days to settle into her new home and become familiar with you. I made the mistake of bonding on the third day after adopting Emilee and it was stressful for everyone… it’s so hard to be patient, but it can make a huge difference =)

It will also be good for your rabbit to get used to seeing her before coming in contact with her and know that she’s not just a visitor, but a permanent resident. As Mocha said, put their cages near each other but not too close that they could attack or bite each other. Switching their toys or food bowls can also help get them used to each other’s scent and optimize their bonding experience. Good luck!!

Thanks for the additional information. It will be hard to wait to start bonding them…I’m just so excited about it. But, you are right…getting used to each other’s smells for a week is a good idea.

Today is the day. Her current dad is supposed to bring her here this afternoon; I can’t wait!!

Take a look at TanLover14’s bonding website. http://www.wheekwheekthump.com. It’s amazing!

I am so sad. The current owner did not show up. I tried to contact him with no luck. I am hoping he just forgot today.
