My bunny, Nibbler, has a bald spot on the TOP of his foot with red sores. I read about sore hocks, but all I could seem to find was sore hocks on the soles of rabbit’s feet. I’m so confused and worried and I already left a message for the vet, but I was just hoping I could find someone who might know what’s wrong. It must have happened in the last two weeks because I recently got him neutered and nor I or the vets noticed anything wrong with him.

It kinda looks like a lick granuloma… or hot spots that are caused by over-licking. Many times animals lick spots that are sore, maybe some arthritis or an injury? I think I remember someone mentioning in another thread that if rabbits have nasal discharge they might lick the evidence off the top of their feet too. Have you noticed any sneezing? Is he eating hay like normal? Hot spots can be created in times of boredom too (at least I know they can in cats and dogs, not sure if rabbits would overgroom when bored).

Thank you for your reply! That actually does make sense, and the vet said something along those same lines. It would make sense because he was neutered two weeks ago so he’s had a lot less time to play out of his cage while he heals, but hopefully now that he’s almost done healing, he won’t over groom himself. For the time being, I’ve dampened the spot with a cold-water soaked rag and then bandaged it up so he stops licking it. Thank you again!
