        Hi Everybun,

So I found a great website that sells Timothy hay in bulk for cheap. I live in NYC so pet store prices for Oxbow Timothy Hay are killing me….

Does any know what the difference between 1st cut and 2nd and 3rd cut is? I know first cut is first cut off of a field each season and it is much rougher in texture and has timothy head in the hay. The timothy hay that is either second cut or third cutting from a field and is usually a lot softer and grassier.  But which one should my rabbits be eating? Which is better for them??

        Best Regards,

        Marcella

This is probably going to give you a better answer than I could:

I guess my answer would be as far as which one they should be eating is this – whichever one you can get them to eat the most of. 3rd cut is pretty seasonal and my rabbits in the past have loved it. I usually purchase a 2nd cut – I think it’s the best of both worlds…but the 3rd cut is pretty special and while in the past I would purchase it if available, I think now that I only have 1 small rabbit I prefer the 2nd cut for him.
