My bunny has had sore hocks for a while. They are red but no bleeding. Nothing I have done has worked yet. I did a little searching online and found that Derma GeL has amazing reviews. Has anyone ever tried it before on their bunny’s sore hocks? How well did it work? Can they digest it without getting sick?  Thanks!

Hi! I thought that both of my rabbits had sore hocks but I think that only one has them. My bunnies sore hocks (I think) are a red sort of bubble with like peeling skin.
I have been putting a thin layer of of Preparation- H on them and it seems to be drying them out. I have also heard that Bag Balm works really well.

A fellow bunny owner on here told me that if you soak your rabbits feet in warm tea bags 2 times a day for about 5 minutes, it helps toughen up the callus’s.

          Here’s a video I found really helpful.

          Hope I helped!

I have never heard of this product. Is it meant for rabbits?

We were advised to use Sudocrem http://www.sudocrem.co.uk/home or another mild nappy rash cream for sore hocks. basically, anything okay for a new born baby is usually okay for bun feet.

My vet suggested Derma Gel when Olivia’s feet were really red but not yet cracked or bleeding. She gave me a small tube of it and it worked really well. It was originally made for horses, I think. It creates a protective barrier. It must be bunny safe or my very rabbit savvy vet would not have suggested it. I put it on and then let her out to play and kept a close eye on her for a half hour just to make sure she didn’t lick it all off.

Yeah, I read that a lot of people use it for horses, but it can be used for any animal. When you say “protective barrier” do you mean that it creates a hard shell coating or the gel doesn’t rub off?
Thanks everybody for your replies! I’ll see what I can do!

I think it just dries and leave a light layer on the heel. I can’t remember now if I applied it once or twice a day. I would put it on while my husband held her and I would blow on it a few minutes before letting her back on the ground to let it dry a little.

Can you only get it for prescription? I want to try it out for one of my pigs.

I just ordered some from eBay. You can get it in ointment form or spray form. I got ointment. $19.99 no shipping. All the reviews are very positive (unless it’s fake reviews). I hope it works!

My review is not fake I would def never use the spray for a bunny so I’m glad you are going with the gel.
