My bunny is a little over 4 months old and recently he has started chewing on everything. I’m afraid he’s going to eat something and get sick, before I could stop him he took a bite out of a doorstop. I have toys and different chews for them but he is not interested in them. Is there a way to make this better? My main concern is that he’s going to eat something and die.

Rabbits love chewing. What sort of housing does he live in? They sell bitter apple spray but a lot of rabbits like the taste of it. I don’t think there is any way to make him stop besides bunny proofing your house. A while ago when I first got my rabbits, I didn’t know that they chewed so much and they managed to chew up a bunch of computer wires (they were okay though!) What chews are you giving him? My rabbits won’t even bother with those plain wood chews. They really like Snak Shak Logs and willow tunnels. Don’t feed the Snak Shak to him a lot though because it contains sugary things and should be a treat.

My rabbits live in a giant x-pen that is about 9ftx5ft. Every time I clean it, I seem to be expanding it I like them living in an x-pen better than free range (right now) because they are more secure and less likely to hurt themselves).

It sounds like it could be hormones I am assuming he isn’t neutered yet given the age? Mine got that way too. His favorite thing was baseboards and he got into our elliptical machine and ate the wires in there as well. His chewing things like crazy went down about a month after he was neutered. He also chewed up the baseboards again when we rearranged his room. I wiped some plain normal nothing too hot hot sauce on the baseboards and put a expen around the elliptical machine to keep him out of that. The hot sauce worked for me. Bunny proof the best you can and perhaps get your bunny neutered if he isn’t already. Best of luck!

Good luck with that. My big guy literally has to be watched every minute he’s out as there is always something he will get at and all I have to say to my husband is “honeyyyy?” And look really sad and he asks “what did he chew now?” Gus is a year old and neutered. It’s just what they do. I even put an old phone chord where he could get it. Nope. Doesn’t want that but will destroy other chords. I can’t possibly bunny proof enough for this munch monster. Don’t pin all your hopes on neutering. Just plan to not let him out all over. Some people don’t mind their homes being destroyed but my husband has trouble with that ha ha

I agree with Megabunny when it comes to the neutering solving the problem. I think given his age if he is suddenly chewing like crazy it could be hormonal and neutering should calm it down. With that said rabbits do love to chew some more than others. I have 2 rabbits my boy rabbit loves to chew things mainly his toys now. He isn’t allowed to run the house because he likes to go up to things and take bites out of them. Its there way of exploring. My other rabbit she isn’t much of a chewer but she was when she was hormonal. It seemed like it happened over night. Like I said before bunny proof the best you can and hopefully neutering will calm some of it down after his hormones have settled. Oh and not sure if you have tried this but the thing my rabbits like and about the only thing my girl rabbit chews is old magazines; you could put one of the floor and open it and see what your rabbit thinks of it. You also could get a toilet paper roll and stuff it will hay that might also be something of interest to your bunny. Again I wish you the best of luck hopefully you can find something your rabbit likes!
