Just out of curiosity, does anyone offer more than one or two kinds of hay? I find that Holly will eat a lot more hay if I rotate different kinds every few days.  She’s currently getting timothy, oat, meadow, orchard and a small amount of alfalfa. I do feel a little crazy keeping five kinds of hay. haha I have a corner of the room pretty much dedicated to hay storage.

I assume there’s no harm in giving her all these different kinds right? She seems to appreciate it.

Mine get 5+ types too. More variety is good and more like their natural diet.

            That’s what I thought, too.

Also, the rabbit sections at the pet stores around here are very small and sometimes won’t carry certain things for a while, so I figured if I got her used to eating a lot of different kinds of hay it won’t be a huge deal if I ever have trouble finding one type, because there will always be others she’ll eat.

There is only one type of hay available locally – brome. But, when I have the money to buy the $4 bags of oxbow I get them oat and orchard as a treat hay.

Same here. The staple hay I use is Timothy most of the time. But I do buy the small oxbow bags of hay as a treat hay usually right after cleaning the litter box I’ll put Timothy hay and a handful of treat hay in there lol they love oat hay. Probably their favorite treat hay.

Right now my girl only gets oat. I bought a whole bale, and it was the only type I could find locally, plus it doesn’t mess with my allergies. Now that I actually have a job, I plan on splurging on some of the Binky Bunny mini bales. I absolutely love them, and I’m not sure if it is because they are so cute and tiny or because the hay seems to be really high quality (never dusty!). I will also see what my Petsmart carries as far as Oxbow, but the bagged hay like that always seems more dusty to me and gives me allergy problems. That might just be because of the Timothy though.

My bunny also gets a lot of grass, which, according to a discussion, is most like hay after the first grass of spring. My lawn is mostly Bermuda, which is sometimes cut as hay, so for now I will just say that she has oat hay with some Bermuda grass.

I always keep a variety on hand and give my bunny a mixture of two or three kinds at once. Right now, I have two brands of Timothy, two brands of orchard grass, botanical hay, organic meadow hay, and a small bag of alfalfa hay. I only give her a pinch of alfalfa on top of the hay pile once a week as a little treat.
