        Hi everyone.

My bunny, Sienna has a pink gash on her back right leg. It isn’t on her paw, but it’s on her leg, like her ankle. It doesn’t seem to be bothering her, but it’s pretty nasty. It’s not bleeding, but the skin is raw and there’s no fur there. I just noticed it today because she doesn’t usually like me picking her up and stuff. I’m thinking that it could be sore hocks, but it’s only on that one area, and she doesn’t live in a wire cage & her litter box isn’t wire either. I’ll try and get a pic…please help I’m very worried about her.

          Hi xBunnyKissesx.

Oh no! Are you able to take your bun to the vet? I hope she gets better.

Hi! Yes, I can. Luckily our local vet takes rabbits. However, their very hard to make an appointment with, and their about to close today. Are there possibly any home remedies that I can try? I have an antibiotic cream that we used on my cat when he had a cut on him, would it work with rabbits too, maybe?

She could have caught her fur on something. Does she have a friend? I wouldn’t worry as long as it isn’t bleeding or look yellow or infected. Is it deep? I don’t think a trip to the vet is necessary this time, as long as she is hopping fine and using her leg. Just keep a very close eye on it!

I wouldn’t use the cat antibiotic cream because you don’t know what it contains.
If you could add the picture, we could help you further.

We have been told that using Sudocrem baby cream (for nappy/diaper rash) is safe to use with buns, we use it on one of our buns hocks from time to time and have also used it on another bun after she had a small bite on her neck.

It’s gentle enough not to be a problem for the buns, so it would seem.

It’s use was advised by the main exotic/rabbit specialist at the specialist animal hospital locally.

Thanks for all of the tips. I’m starting to think that it isn’t sore hocks, as it’s going up her back legs. She’s going to the vet in about an hour. I’m also going to get her gender checked, as I’m starting to think Sienna might actually be a little boy bunny, Lol! WIsh us luck, everyone!

Update: Sienna went to the vets today. It turns out that I was right, Sienna is actually a boy. We discovered that he has coccidia and a fungal infection. We got medication to give him, and so far he’s doing okay!

I was going to suggest to try a compress of warm water and hydrogen peroxide. And to compress the spot with the mixture for 10 min. twice a day. It really helps to heal a spot. Glad he has medicine!

Thank you! The vet gave us a soap thing to put on it, but unfortunately he needs a bath to do so. (Only around his legs, though.) He won’t like it I’m guessing, but I’ll give him some treats afterwards!

That’s why I was suggesting the compress. It’s less stressful than a bath. =]

Congrats on having a boy! ^_^ Glad to know he’s going to be okay. Coccidia is pretty common in rabbits, several of the buns at my local HRS are being treated for it and after a month or two, they’ll be good as new. For his legs, maybe have someone hold him above a big bowl of lukewarm water and slowly pour the water on his legs… Or soak a towel in the water and gently press against his legs. Good luck and hope he doesn’t give you a hard time.
