› Forum › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Genuinely the most worried and stressed I’ve been for a long time.
So, this morning, we checked our little boy, Link into the Glasgow University Animal Hospital, under the care of the eye specialist George Peplinski http://www.gla.ac.uk/news/archiveofnews/2008/february/headline_66058_en.html
and their exotic specialist Livia Benato, http://www.vet-webinar.com/Livia-Benato-DVM-CertZooMed-MRCVS.22.0.html?&L=1
Livia isn’t in today, but is keeping tabs on Link’s case.
I know he’s in the best possible hands, but an eye removal is such an invasive procedure…
Links bad eye, he doesn’t really open much anymore, he’s just too uncomfortable, so much so, that he’s now been on dog metacam to keep him as comfortable as possible as the cat stuff just didn’t help at all.
He’s still bright eyed and the likes, though. And has a healthy appetite and poops a lot.
It’s 1:28pm here, now… We’re to expect a call around 3pm for an update… So stressed, though…
He’ll be OK you have to remember that his is just an everyday thing for the vets, they are used to procedures like this. Therefore they are very confident and capable. Being stressed is not going to help Link recover, either. I have actually had experiences where if I was in a stressed or tense mood around my buns, they would be really alert and tense as well, but after I took a deep breath and calmed myself down, they responded and calmed down as well.
Sending vibes Link’s way – he sounds like he’s in very good hands.
Sending calming and worry free vibes to you and your wife.
MK, indeed. we know. and I think I’m ontop of such stress when he’s at home, it was just the waiting that was the struggle.
Sarita, ha, thanks, I’m sure our Binker needs it!
My wife heard back at 3pm, everything went as routine as to be expected and she’s collecting him at 5:30…
Currently just disinfecting his pen and litter tray.
Still anxious and can’t wait to get the little Cyclops home!
It’s such a relief to have him back.
Still so worried about him, he looks like he’s been abused.
He’s obviously mega grumpy right now, but, hopefully, that’s the worse of it all behind us now and he’s on the road to recovery!
Oh, bless his heart – I know it’s hard for you to see him this way, but he will adjust and be free from pain very soon.
Hugs.
(((((((((((Link)))))))))))
This will be a relief for him once the initial pain wears off. I think it’s so great that you’re doing this for him. He’s such a beautiful boy.
I’m so happy to see he’s home and recovering. {{{Link}}}
You both must be so relieved!
That looks neat and tidy. I hope it all heals up nicely. It’s the missing fur that can be a bit of a shock when you first see them after surgery. I remember when one of my rabbits had a jaw abscess treated, they shaved off half his face fur. :\
Poor little guy. I’m so glad to hear the procedure went well. I know they look just heartbreaking when they get an eye removed, but he will be pain free when it heals. (((((Speedy Recovery Link)))))
Ahh. I hope he recovers quickly. It sounds like things went well though. (((((Link))))
So glad he can through fine.
(((((Vibes to him, you and your wife)))))
Oh, the poor baby! Hope he gets well soon!
sending ((((Vibes))))
Aww, poor Link. So glad he’s home now. Don’t worry, like the others said, he will be much happier once he is pain-free.
Well… Had to administer Metacam and Baytril this morning. That, needless to say, was not fun.
It’s really difficult “burrito-ing” him at the moment. So terrified I’m going to hurt him.
He ate a little last night, and came running to the wife this morning when she came in with the usual bowl of pellets, but, I think that was more routine than anything, because, when he got to her, he wasn’t interested in the pellets and just quietly went back to his corner.
Like I said, he’s eaten something, so, not overly worried about that, just feel really sorry for the little boy… But, he’s a trooper, I just need him back on his feet asap!
I’m having a little cry… sorry! I know and agree it’s for the best, but it’s still so sad to see Link (pic) having to endure this. As always Benjamin, Louise and your family, my thoughts of well wishes are with you all. Take care.
We have the little Binkey in the living room with us this evening, so, thought I would share what he’s upto… Albeit not much.
Just having a sit. nothing more.
Still very swollen, but he’s taking pellets and fruit off us now, so he’s picking up.
Can see the swelling a little better.
I still looks pretty bright eyed though. But, still looks a bit shocked…
He’s doing very well, though!
Here’s another little picture of our Bink. Poor little man has been grinding a little tonight and he’s had his full dose of painkillers. Will need to keep a close eye on him. Hopefully he’ll be better tomorrow.
Pain free vibes to Link!
Typically, his empty socket is getting somewhat itchy…
We’re trying to stop him from scratching as best we can, but we can only do so much.
So, he’s made it all red and angry looking…
Poor baby! Can the vet give him anything for the itching?
I imagine you’ve already tried this but I’ll say it just in case. . . . Our 3 buns hate being burrito’d (except by the vet!) so giving meds is a nightmare that way. I about gave up with Kieko but tried just holding the syringe in front if her. She licked the meds right from the syringe. Have done this with all three with no problem. Moshi is on baytril right now and as long as the med is still coming out if the syringe he keeps licking it — will bite and tug at the syringe if nothing is coming out or just hop away. If you haven’t already, give it a try! Don’t give up! It’s worked for my three with baytril, metacam, and albin (sp?). I guess it gives them back the control!
o_O
Ha, fat chance of getting Link anywhere near Baytril… He’s fine with Metacam, we just put it on a small amount of pellets, but bring a Baytril syringe anywhere near him and he grunts, kicks and punches, then runs off and hides under the chest of drawers… The burrito is the only way I can get it in him.
Thanks for the advice, but our little binker isn’t one for co-operating when it comes to medication.
He won’t even eat it when mixed with applesauce or baby food?
(((((Continued vibes)))))
He looks good today, keep an eye on the itching.
I wonder if our baytril is flavored with something because Moshi is super picky about everything but hay. With Kieko, I was so tired and so frustrated that I just held the syringe in front of her face and said “Pleeeeease take this” and she did. Have you tried saying “Pleeeeease”?! I’m sure you have, you’re such a good bunnydaddy.
I guess with any healing you get itching. How is he today?
He’s recovering very well. The swelling and redness has reduced and he’s seeming more himself by the hour. And honestly, I think he’s in less pain already than he was before the surgery
Here’s a wee video of him with us 5 minutes ago.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLmdilHvDG8
Thanks for sharing that. He’s acting great!
Glad to hear Link is feeling better! I can’t see the video on my phone by am going straight to it next time I get on my laptop. Link is lucky to have such caring parents!
He’s eagerly taking that treat! I think that’s a very good sign. Glad he’s feeling better already.
Wait…… I’m confused. Are RetroSquid and Ousie the same?
Anyway, looks like he is recovering very well!
Thanks all, LongEaredLions I’m Louise and RetroSquid is my husband Benjamin
Got it. Thanks.
No new photos today, but, we’ve just had our post op checkup. The vet is happy with Link’s recovery, and we’re to half his metacam dose. He’s also only on Baytril for another couple of days, then, a happy, slightly wonky bun!
Sending healing vibes to your sweet baby bunny! Wishing him a fast and speedy recovery!
Yay for healthy recovery!
(((((Continued healing vibes)))))
(((((More fast recovery Vibes))))))
So happy to see/read that Link is recovering well – he’s SUCH a brave boy!
PS – I wouldn’t let my hubby become BB member (unlike Louise and Benjamin). My hubby would just spread rumours that I spend more time on BB than I do with my Henry…… LOL!
More vibes for Link!

Ha… is there any truth to that though?
And it was my who go the wife into the BinkyBunny stuff…
Actually, when we met, she had no animals, and possibly little interest in having animals… I like to think I’ve been a good influence!
A mini-update on Link.
Today is the first day he hasn’t been on antibiotics or painkillers in 2014.
He’s had his week of Baytril post op, and we were told to reduce his metacam as necessary…
He didn’t get any metacam last night, and didn’t need it this morning either.
I grabbed a quick video of him having lunch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orYqV6D5k5E
I finally got to see Link’s videos! He must be feeling pretty good — or that’s a pretty important salad! So glad to see that he’s doing well.
Aww, look at that sweetie munching away! =D
I bet that seeing how well he’s doing now (no more pain meds, etc) has made any doubts you had before melt away.
Hooray!
Must be such a relief all round to stop the medicating.
It’s 4am here, and with everything that’s happened the last few days, https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/130552/Default.aspx
Have been finding it somewhat difficult to sleep. The wife is also at her parents tonight after a family gathering for her birthday. I came back home early though to feed and dish out any required medications to those in needs…
But, although I’m entirely unable to sleep, it’s very comforting to hear Link chewing on bits and bobs as he scampers around the bedroom. With everything that’s gone on the past 12month, we needed some good news from the fury little bugger.
He seems so happy and back to his old self now. He’s still very vocal and grunts at you if you move anything he’s interested in, but he flies around the room at speeds you wouldn’t believe when he thinks he’s getting breakfast.
Ha, he’s currently darting about and actually hopping over cats as he goes, he almost seems carefree these days!!!
I’m so glad to hear that he is doing so well
Just a couple of photos.
Link being somewhat grumpy as it’s a little bit too warm for a bun today. 24 degrees.
Each bun has a ceramic tile and chilled water at the moment, we’re looking into fans for each room, too, just to circulate some air.
A better shot showing how there is no swelling at all anymore. He’s healed so well
Final shot of the wound itself, it looks like nothing more than a strip of dry skin now, and the hair is finally growing back, too.
Glad he is getting better – more vibes to Link.
Wow, his incision is looking so much better! Has the itching completely stopped? Can’t wait to see him when the fur finishes growing back.
Glad he’s healing and zooming around the room! Cute bunbun
Sarita, he’s better than he’s been this year… He’s recovered so fantastically.
JackRabbit, he doesn’t seem to itch at all anymore, he just carries on as normal.
And, because he gradually lost sight in that eye before it was removed, there wasn’t any shock of suddenly going blind on one side.
Kimomo, Zooming is right, he runs back and too like an utter mental at 5am most mornings… It’s a rather comforting sound!
Awww….such a cute little Trooper!
I love a ‘happily ever after’ – thanks RS!
Aww, congrats, and great job. Yay for Link!
Well, I think we genuinely have a happy bun at home now.
I think it’s about four weeks since surgery. His hair is growing back nicely, his mood has improved significantly. He isn’t grumpy at all, he’s enjoying being stroked and contact in general, where as the past eight months or so, he’s hated anyone coming near him.
All in all, he’s a totally different bun!
The fur is still a little shorter than the rest of him, but other than that, he just looks like he has his eye closed.
So much so that sometimes, it feels like he might be uncomfortable still, and then we remember he doesn’t actually have an eye to open on that side anymore! ^_^
I’ve noticed a few times, when we sit on the floor and call him over, he generally runs right past us.
Although he’s only had sight in one eye for a long time, now, he still acts as though he’s got two and can see out of two, until it’s too late. he’s either ran past his breakfast, or ran right through it. Silly boy.
So glad he is doing better!
Sweet sweet baby! So glad to hear he is recovering well and he looks fantastic!
Glad it helped him, and that he is happy now!
What a cutie!
I am glad that your bun made such a wonderful recovery!
Awwww….the little sweetheart. I’m so glad he is making out so well.
Link’s morning routine is… … Bear in mind, he lives in our bedroom:
1)Run around like a mental at 5am.
2)Run around like a mental at 7am.
3)Run around mental and binky over the cats as the alarm goes off at 7:30am)
4)Await the cats being fed as he knows whoever is feeding them is coming back with a handful of pellets.
Now, during this wait, he hops off and on the bed repeatedly, as though he just can’t contain himself.
This morning, I finally managed to get a little video of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8lMx5QKfEs
As you can see, there is nothing wrong with this little Cyclops.
That sounds like quite a routine! Wish my buns had so much energy! Wish I could watch the vid, but I can’t use Youtube on this comp. I will just close my eyes and imagine it……..Squeeeeee
Such a loved, happy boy.
The video is so cute, and the slow-mo makes it even cuter!
I totally agree with LEL about the slo-mo! It really gives the impression of a HUGE rabbit. Like… I had Jurassic Park flashbacks! He looks great! I’m so glad he’s back to feeling like himself again!
To be honest, I wouldn’t say he’s “back to feeling like himself” exactly.
He’s only just over a year old and his problems started around the time we lost our bun, Zelda. which was also almost a year ago… Link’s been troubled for the majority of his life… It almost feels like we’re only just finally getting to meet him properly. :'(
I’m glad he is adjusting.
It is so great that this has allowed his real personality to shine though and show you what a spunky bunny he is. You are a wonderful bunny parent!
Ha, thank you. We do try our best. As difficult as it has been.
Now, we’re starting again with bonding our girls… teeny, tiny baby steps!
Just back from the vets for Link’s final FINAL post op checkup, been given the all clear and told never to come back!
Also topped up his booster vaccinations, too.
So, all finally done and dusted!
I’m so happy for him! and for you. The video is just perfect. He’s a very beautiful rabbit. I hope he’ll stay well for the whole, long rest of his life now!!
It’s not possible to measure distance correctly with only one eye, perhaps that’s why he misses the target when you call him. But he will probably get even better at compensating for his lost eye with time. He seems to be doing excellently already.
Yay! *binkies*
I know I have commented on this thread a lot, so I’ll keep it short…..
HOO-RAH LINK!
Just a couple of shots of Link, being… … well… the happy, somewhat carefree bun he now is.
I’ll put this thread to bed after this, no longer stressed or worried. Just happy to have our little boy back.
He does seem somewhat more at home with kitty company than bun company. He’s been isolated from buns for so long now.
But, the re-bonding will be started over the summer.
One more time I suppose…
Yay for Link! What a happy ending to all of this!
Cute pictures – so glad he is all better.
Awwwww…..adorable pics! So happy for your family.
Just wanna say I’m glad Link is all better now. I also posted this on your youtube video too. Yay Link! It’s dangerous to go alone, so good thing he has you there for him! (hah video game puns ftw XD)
