        Hello fellow bunny lovers!!

I have seen some videos (not here) of people with their bunnies in the tub. They don’t have any soap that I can tell and the water level is low. Does anyone do this? I know they clean themselves, and there are ‘instant safe spray’ shampoo for outside the bath tub, but was just curious to see if anyone lets them swim or anything.

Thanks guys! Have a good day

I’m not an expert, but I’m fairly sure they shouldn’t be bathed (a swimming bunny would be cute though!).
I think that, because of the nature of their fur, it takes much too long to dry and they can get sick. Also, it’s not too safe to use a hair dryer as they are loud and rabbits are also susceptible to heat stroke.

I hope this help! And if I’m wrong about this someone please correct me.

Bunnies hate swimming, and while they are good at it, they would only do it in a life/death situation. It stresses them out horribly and since they are very clean animals it has no point but to stress them out. They can also get ill from being wet.

First you do not want to wet your rabbit more than absolutely necessary at any time! Second, a tub being slippery would be extremely dangerous for many many reasons. You might want to read the article at the link I am pasting below. Please note how strongly this expert stresses washing with water ONLY when there is NO alternative, and the precautions she recommends before and while taking this step.

I am no expert either, but from the bit I do know, please don’t bathe your bunny unless it’s “necessary” – like a poopy bottom (and only then bathe the poopy bottom ‘bit’ only). It just causes stress, and as cute as a bunny in a bath may ‘look’ in a picture, being stressed is no fun at all! Good for you for asking – cheers GiggilyPuffBunny.

Bathing bunnies is absolutely terrifying for them. They can actually go into shock and die from the extreme stress of it. That’s why those pics circulating on Facebook of bunnies tranced in a full sink are not cute, but cruel. Bunnies can also get pneumonia from being wet and getting chilled.

Bindi occasionally needs a bum bath if he gets a bit of mushy poo in his long bum fur. When he does I put a tiny bit of warm water in the sink, just enough to wet the dirty part. You can also do a dry bath with corn starch if your bun has pee on them.

The only time I ever bathed Lulu was this summer when we were dealing with pasturella. When giving the medicine I had to mix it in applesauce and use a syringe. Needless to say we had a mess with fur and applesauce. She is too big to fit in the sink so her an I sit in the tub together, she sat on my lap, and I would just clean the applesauce off her. She would never get too wet. Her undercoat would always remain dry, so where she was wet she would dry quickly.

So yes, in agreement with everyone else, don’t do it unless you absolutely have to. They will only swim when it is a life or death situation…although it is kinda cute to see.

Got it 🙂 thanks guys. YEAH I’ve seen videos of bunnies swimming- I didn’t know if it was voluntary haha- BUT regardless,
It was probably… The. Cutest. Thing. I’ve. Ever. Seen! 😀

I wasn’t planning on bathing her anyway- she probably wouldn’t forgive me HA. Just curious. I do have some of that dry instant shampoo for bunnies though. It’s just a spray (not for the bath) just in case they get smelly.

Thanks guys! Have a good week (cheers AndHenry! 🙂 love it!) and bunny on! 🙂
