I got my bunnies two weeks ago, I’m not using the same pelettes that they were on but their poop was normal when i got them and it didnt just happen until recently that they started getting diarrhea. Their diet consists of Hay, Romain lettuce, kale and alfalfa pellets they’re still young. They’re acting normal. They maybe went 1 or 2 days without lettuce because i didn’t have time to run to the store but they’re back to eating greens again. Diarrhea has been going on for maybe 3 or more days. What could it be?

You need to take them to a vet right away. This is not healthy for any bunny, and if it lasts more than one episode that clears up that same day, it can be terrible for the bunny. Please take them both to see a vet asap. If it’s diet related, the vet will tell you, so be prepared to give details about what you’re feeding them, as well as their habitat arrangement and if you let them out. (In case they’re eating somehting you don’t know about.)
New bunnies need to be established with a vet (exotics vets handle bunnies) and examined anyway, so it is important to find one for them both now.

If the rabbit’s not yet 6 months old they shouldn’t be fed fresh vegetables. Kale easily gives a bun runny bum. I’d stop giving kale and only give small amounts of romaine lettuce, and feed unlimited alfalfa hay and pellets. I give mine kale maybe for one meal every 2-3 days.

Thanks for the info! You are right though, I started feeding them veggies because i read on a website that you could slowly start introducing fresh veggies into their diet. Their poop switches back and forth from round balls to little small pebbles. I found out why this is, they’re getting too much food pellets and veggies and not enough hay. I didn’t realize that would’ve made such a huge difference. I’ll start cutting down on the veggies. Thank you so much!

Rabbits can have greens before 6 months old.. just introduce one new food at a time, with a week in between to monitor reactions to it. Mine started on veggies at 12 weeks old.

Lots of hay is ideal, though! the more hay the better

Is it actually diarrhoea, like watery/runny or is it just very soft poops?

Diarrhea would be very watery and runny which would be fatal.

If it’s just soft poops then it’s probably diet related in some way.

And rabbits can have veggies before six months as long as introduced slowly. And kale does not cause runs either. Just make sure as MB says that they are eating plenty of hay.

My rabbit gets soft and watery poops every time she eats kale. Doesn’t happen with other fresh greens. I can give a large handful of spinach or romaine lettuce and she wouldn’t get watery poops. Only happens with kale, even in small amount.

Lori, you need to contact the vet again. baby buns get dehydrated very quickly and he’ll probably need fluids, sub Q or even IV. Meanwhile keep the little bun warm in a fleece blanket. Baby buns dont feed every two hours, mamabun typically only feeds her kits once or twice per 24 hours.
