At first I thought things were going great between my new rabbit and my cat–the bunny was very inquisitive toward her and she was mostly annoyed but aloof toward him. Now, things have gone a bit more sour. Whenever she sees me paying attention to the bunny she runs over as if she’s jealous, but if I try to pet her she runs away. She spends much less time in the house and around me; she used to sleep in bed with me every night but she doesn’t anymore, and she actively moves away from me if I try to pet her. She actually scratched the poor bunny when he was just sniffing her tail and drew blood (luckily he is fine). I’m worried not just for my bunny but for my cat too. Has anyone else had this problem? Any recommendations?

I feel like maybe she is just too used to being the sole pet of the household and that I am causing her a good bit of emotional harm. I don’t want her to feel bummed out because there is another animal in the picture. She is a very sensitive kitty….

I’m thinking I might have to find a new home for Bo Diddley!

I’ve got 3 cats (more recently 5 but I lost two one to cancer and the other to old age) I also have 8 house bunnies and 5 rescue bunnies… There are occasional moments, like when Pandora Bunny chases Finn Gall kitteh through the house, but other than that they are fine… You just have to balance it out a bit… Maybe get a nice dangly thing on a stick for your cat and set aside some special play time… Not sleeping on the bed could be a result of the weather warming up North of the equator. It’s getting cold down here and all mine have moved into the bed this week. Set aside some zones that are either kitteh or bunneh only. You could also invest in some Feliway which may help if your cat is a bit stressed… My Luna kitteh was my biggest problem but time seems to have resolved that also making sure that every bunneh is spayed or neutered so that no bunny tries to hump any of the cats.

I wouldn’t get rid of your bunny. I have a cat that has gotten jealous when I have brought new pets home. It will take awhile but your cat will get over it. my cat acted really jealous when I got our dog. Its like he held a grudge against me for a good while. Of course he is 10 now and has mellowed out over the years. Just try to set some time out and spend some one on one time with your cat. Give them their favorite treat that always seems to help. it will all work itself out.

I’m desperate! My cat is severely jealous of the new rabbit I rescue. I don’t want to find a new home for Rodney but Roxy has been with me through thick and thin for 10 years and I can’t make her depressed any longer it’s been over a month. If anyone can help please I’m desperate!
