I am booking an appointment to get my rabbit neutered. The secretary who answered the phone told me the money would cover pain medication, surgery and that Checkers would probably get a tetanus shot. My question is, do rabbits get tetanus shot and is it safe?

Rabbits do not normally get a tetanus shot – I would question this although I do find that many times the receptionist at vet offices don’t always give out the correct information.

I have never heard of this. Is your vet rabbit savvy? Although it was likely just the receptionist. Make sure to talk to the vet before he goes in for the neuter.

I know the vaccinations vary according to where one lives but I have never heard of a tetanus shot being recommended for any pet I’ve had anywhere I lived.

I cant even think of a situation a house rabbit would be likely to get in where a tetanus shot would be warranted. (though I am sure there are some)

When you get in to see the vet, ask and please tell us what you find out.
