After seeing how our Lop Eared bunny, Cadbury was with the parents and girlfriends parents small dogs, we decided to look into getting him a friend – another bunny! The local animal shelter didn’t have any, so we drove back to my families place, about 2.5 hours away. We took are rabbit with us. We unfortunately didn’t bring our bunny with us to the animal shelter in this city, and kind of picked up the new guy on a whim.

They (the shelter) just got a litter of 11 week old dwarf mix bunnies. We picked the smallest one, who was also the ONLY one that would come to the cage when we looked in. We signed the papers, and took him home.We took him to meet Cadbury (our, what I believe is now 9 month old neutered male) to see how they would interact. Cadbury didn’t do nothing. He just laid there, all lopped out.

From what I understand, this is good! Cadbury doesn’t see him as a threat!

Being the first time Cadbury has been to my parents house, and this new bunny’s first place outside of the shelter, I figured it was a good neutral zone. All they really did was run into the same corner, and poop one after another. They did chase each other around a bit, but it didn’t seem like any sort of aggressive manner. They simply would stop, and sniff. Then go about their business.

On the way home, again, a 2.5 hour drive, we put them both in a dog kennel in the backseat. At first, the little guy was in the log house (which we put in there) and Cadbury was on the outside. Next thing we knew, Cadbury was inside there, and they where snuggling! Within 24 hours… these two where snuggling. I think we got lucky picking him out!

Now back at home, I have the new rabbits cage set up beside Cadbury’s. About 6 inches apart, as per what I read. I let them roam around together when I am home, just so I can monitor them a bit more, under supervision. The little guy constantly goes into Cadbury’s home, and eats his food. And vice versa. They will even eat together, as the same time!

Cadbury, once in awihle, will mount the little guy. As far as I am aware, I’m supposed to let him “hump” for a like ten seconds, then push him off gently.

So far, after just two days of having the new guy, I have him peeing in a litter box. He hasn’t made a mistake yet. However, I am still working on getting him to poop in there… Oh, and these little guys ARE FAST.
