So my mom, brother, and I need to go to a place for 3 weeks. I was in need to find a sitter and i couldnt.. So i have to bring him along.. We are leaving in a plane and it will take around 2-3 hours.. I need help!! I need to know if he will be ok…

I was wondering is he will be ok with all the other animals in the air craft.. Can you tell me what i need? Will his ears be ok? Will HE be ok in general? Will he live? Will he be scared? What should i have in the cage? He is a holland lop so how big will the cage have to be? Will he need food and water in his cage? Should it just be hay and water?

Will he need food and water in his cage? And please leave any other tips!! D:

(Btw its like $125 for him to ride in the cabin and my mom says it is too expensive for a rabbit.. So he will have to ride in cargo.)

Please do NOT have him ride on the cargo hold! It would be very dangerous for him. The temperature could vary greatly and the extreme noise could easily frighten him to death. I would never do it, it’s too risky. Which airline are you using? I think Delta allows animals in the cabin, $125 seems pretty outrages to me anyway. If you do some more research I’m sure you could find a better deal with a different airline, have you booked the flight yet? If having him in the cabin just can’t be worked out, I would go without him. I know you said you couldn’t find a sitter but there might be something else you can come up with. Maybe leave him with a friend or relative?

I’d avoid him going into cargo at all costs.

I agree with Hazel, if buns need to go on a plane, it needs to be in the Cabin. :/
Can you leave him with a friend?

This is something me and my wife have pondered for some time now, as, we currently have three rabbits, three cats and three ferrets. (Two of which are very old and likely won’t be with us for much longer )
But, at some point in the next five years, intend to emigrate from the UK, hopefully to Canada, but it all depends on where the work it.

But, having that many animals with us (At least six) would greatly affect if they could be housed in the cabin, the hold or wherever they need to be put.

So, very interested to see peoples responses here.

                Hi LLLB,
Have you checked with the airline, they may allow you to take him on board as carry on luggage, or possibly get a letter from your vet stating he is a support animal… I would clarify that first….
Then if you get the right answers find out what the restrictions are with cage dimensions etc… Cost will have specific guidelines for people travelling with pets in the cabin…

OK… Didn’t see the note about the cabin charge… Could you possibly work out a trade with your Mother… Chores in lieu of the cost for your bunny to travel in the cabin ?

Thank you everyone for your responses! I really want to take him D: But $125 is outrages (And you would have to pay for there and back!)… I guess Im going to have to pay either way… I will keep searching for a sitter Hopefully UNDER $250….. I could ask my neighbor.. But 3 weeks… Thats a while.. maybe i could barter and trade her watching my bunny for me babysitting

Vets cannot deem an animal an emotional support animal. You need a psychiatrist or other mental health medical professional to do that, and they should only be prescribed for people that actually need them. To do otherwise will potentially cause problems or give them a bad name, which could cause the rules to be rewritten and make it harder or impossible for people who actually need them to obtain them. Mind you this is from US laws, it will be different elsewhere.

But for OP, if you happen to currently be seeing a therapist or other mental health professional, and you think having an ESA would benefit you, a note stating that you have an ESA would wave any fees that the airline would charge. While you can get these notes online from so called professionals for a small fee, it is highly unethical and if you were caught you would have a hard time defending your case.

I wouldn’t suggest flying with him in cargo. He may not make it. In cabin would probably be fine (for that short of flight), but be informed… You have to take your rabbit out of your bag and walk your bun through security.

I would suggest asking someone who has private dog boarding if they would be able to accommodate you.

Is there any way you can just pay your mother back? Are you old enough to get a credit card? Honestly, I would never put mine in cargo..heck, I don’t think I could even do that for a dog or cat, I’d rather drive than do that.
Do you have any rabbit rescues near you? I know some do bunny sitting!

The best thing to do would be to not take him on the plane in the first place. Search hard for a sitter, there has got to be someone. Good luck!

I’m going away for a week and couldn’t get a sitter to visit the flat for a number of reasons, so have found a nice couple who have a rabbit “kennels”. Basically the have outdoor and indoor areas for rabbits to stay temporary depending on what your rabbit is used to. The cage & pen size is perfectly good and they know what they’re doing, it’s also super cheap at around one euro a night.
Something like that is a lot better than taking the bunnies flying if you can’t get a sitter to visit your house. So yeah, try and have a look around for rabbit kennels/pensions/rescue centres that offer boarding if a sitter isn’t an option.
