Today while my holland lop (he is just over 4 months old) was hopping around and I noticed traces of feces on his underside (near tail and hind legs). I attempted to carefully hold him while my mother helped wipe away the poop with a damp wash cloth. She also cut out some of the bigger pieces that were really caked on and far enough away from the skin to not risk hurting him. We tried to dry the area on an extremely light blow dryer setting as best as possible and placed a bit of unscented standard cornstarch on the area.

When all was done, I examined his bottom and still noticed quite a bit of “leftover” spots around his reproductive parts/tail area. The whole 25 minute effort was mostly a failure. It’s so hard to get off! I am afraid to use any soap and do not want to get the area too wet because it is difficult to dry. I play with my bun every day and didn’t notice this on him yesterday so I cannot imagine the poop has been on him for very long but I want to make sure it is resolved before it’s on his fur too long and causes an issue. Please share any insight you have keeping in mind he is still pretty young and very fluffy! (4 months, about 2 and a half-3 pounds)

Note: This is the first time this has happened, my bunny usually has no trouble keeping himself clean…he has a litter box with a grate on top so he cannot get into his poop but this was caused from “wet” poop remnants getting on the grates and him sitting on at night before I woke up and noticed, cleaning it of course.
