I am afraid that Tank rabbit’s health is declining. I’ve put all bonding on hold.

He takes 1 mg of metcam a day for his arthritus, and it seemed to be helping a lot, then all at once he started having accidents again, etc, and Mulder and Scully were harassing him, chasing him out of the litterbox and making the problem even worse and I think the flooring was too slippery for him so we moved him downstairs where he could have carpeting, more room to get away from them when he needed to, and 2 litterboxes to choose from.

Well, the hair on his back-end is thinner than it is everywhere else. His back legs are pretty matted. I’ve trimmed most of it away but he kind of moves like they’re bothering him sometimes. It’s really hard to tell. And then, as I was grooming him I found THIS on his skin!!!

A vet appointment is ABSOLUTELY going to be made, but in the mean time, has anyone ever seen this before??? It has no real texture that differs from his skin from what I can tell, it’s just black and slightly raised. Should I consider separating him from Mulder and Scully?

Hmm, that I have never seen. Is he eating?

I could be completely wrong here, but could it be a melanoma?

He has been eating normally. He behaves normally otherwise.

I hope it’s not cancerous or anything. On another forum, someone had a similar problem, and the posters thought it might just be normal hair regrowth… I really hope that’s the case.

If it is the same colour/texture as the skin, it is likely that it is just normal hair regrowth. I have seen it it in guinea pigs. What happens is the incoming hair can cause slight irritation causing the skin to swell slightly. Of course I could be wrong, just an idea.

Ditto ^. I’m thinking its new fur growing. You’ll know for certain in a few days when/if it grows a bit.

I think it’s new fur growing as well…

You said it was raised so I wasn’t thinking hair regrowth. That’s very interesting LEL, I didn’t know that the new stuff coming in would cause swelling in the area.

I have to be honest and say when I read your forum and looked at the pic yesterday ZS I sorta thought the same as LBJ – but couldn’t bring myself to post it. Everything (except for my eyes) are crossed that we are both wrong and it is new hair growth. Am waiting (very un-patiently) for an update – I so hope all is well. Am thinking of Tank – and you.

I know when I’ve been petting the buns and feel a lump, most time when I go investigate, it’s new fur growing in. Gets me everytime. :p
                          So it does feel raised.

When Navi had her operation on the back of her neck it was shaved. And when the hair started to grow back it was sooooo thick that it felt like a raised area of skin and was very dark. I too think it will just be hair growth but better to be safe and check!
