Ok I couldn’t see a specific topic for this so started a new one…
Bailey has gotten into an awful habit lately of digging in his cage at about 4am every night.
It’s a plastic cage so it’s REALLY loud and wakes me up. I used a water spray to train him with other things but it’s not working for this, he just waits until he hears me go back to bed and then starts up again…
I don’t know what to do but it’s driving me mad and I think I’m going a bit crazy from sleep deprivation!
He has about 6 hours out across the morning and evening and has a digging box which he uses loads plus loads of toys. He spends most of his run time napping under the bed or having snuggles and only some of it being active and will happily get back in his cage and just sit quietly with the door open so I don’t think it’s that he feels confined. His cage is huge too, one of the 140 ones, and it’s only at night that he takes offence to it.
Has anyone got any tips to help quiet him down a bit so I can sleep?!!

I’m sorry I can’t offer any advice, other than make sure he has stuff to do in his cage like cardboard boxes, willow toys, things to destroy. I can certainly relate to your pain. I have an early morning digger. Sunday is my 1 day off to sleep in and Bindi starts to digging in the corner of his condo around 7:00 a.m. I get up feed him and go back to bed and he keeps it up sometimes, keeping me from falling back asleep. Very annoying noise.

Lulu used to do this too but in her litter box and at two hour intervals! She would drive me nuts!! Her logic was either her box was too dirty, she wanted different hay, or she just wanted out, and she is free range for the most part. She kinda grew out of it for the most part. Then I later made an x pen for her instead of her sleeping in her cage and she no longer digs. Sorry I don’t really have great advice but I feel your pain!

My Yohio can dig and tear at my bedsheets very early in the morning, it’s enourmously irritating. I keep a small jar (with a screw-on lid) + some treats on my bedside table to give him on such occasions. I think he is trying to wake me up because he’s bored or wants sth good to eat (he always has hay). He wants attention I’m sure, so if I pet him he usually calms down. Sometimes we both go back to sleep when he has his little head tucked into my hand. But if your bunny isn’t actually in your bed as Yohio is, middle-of-the-night cuddling is inconvenient.

If you made an X-pen and gave him twigs and branches to chew and destroy, maybe the sounds he makes would be less loud. But if your bunny WANTS to create noise to wake you, I’m sure he’ll find a way anyway.

Wish I had some better advice, but I don’t.

Thanks guys I’ll try some of those tips. He always gives me lovely snuggles in the morning like he’s trying to make up for it so I suppose that’s a small blessing ha ha. Oh these buns we love can be little pains!
