I noticed today that my 5 month old Holland Lop Holly has a small “bald spot” on the top of her head. It’s not completely bald, but when I pet the top of her head fur is coming out in clumps. I brush her regularly, and she’s shedding a little, but most of her shedding seems to be on the top of her head. Is this normal? Should I be concerned about a small bald patch? It’s not red and she’s not bother when I touch it.

Hey Katie – sadly I think this is quite normal….. Can you see new hair growth coming through on the bald patch? If Holly isn’t bothered by it and it doesn’t seem to be irritated I’d say it’s just moulting. Just a quick thought, is there any white flakiness? If so, it could be mites – but if not, na, Holly is just going through a moult. She’s such a pretty girl – is she vain? You may have to invest in a tiara to cover it…. LOL! Cheers Katie.

Bumpy starts his shedding pattern on his head too.. and he loves when I tug at the little clumps, though I heard not everyone’s buns like it.

Haha she loves when I scratch her head. Nope, no flakes, thank goodness. And I can see new fur growth coming in, too. Guess it’s normal!

              Thanks!

I recently started a post about the nutty molting patterns as many bunnies are beginning a molt now. https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/130289/Default.aspx
If your bunny ends up looking funky — be sure to submit photos as we will be creating a page dedicated to this — so people know how abnormal normal bunny molting can seem.

Will do! So far its only noticeable from really close up because the rest of her “bunny fro” hides the bald spot. haha
