Hey guys! My lionhead is shedding so much and its all over everything! I called my local pet groomer and asked about grooming him. She said that she often gets lionheads because their owners like to keep their butts shaved. She said she could groom him using scissors and a furminator…my question is: is this bad for him? I dont want him ingesting the hair which as hard i try to stop it he still does. So im unsure what to do! Let me know what yall think! Thanks

I have an angora/teddy mix (aka giant fluff ball!) and we usually trim her hair at home every few weeks. I’m not sure about lion heads, but any rabbit with wool fur can have their hair trimmed. Once I trim her hair, I brush all of the strays out with a wire brush. She doesn’t have problems with ingesting hair that I’ve seen. I always make sure she eats lots of hay so that it gets pushed out of her system! Are you brushing him every day?

For my guys I use a variety of grooming methods. I use the small animal furminator as well as the hairbuster to brush them. I use a lint roller to remove excess fur, or use wet hands or dish washing gloves. You can pull out loose tufts gently with your hands. When they are molting, you may have to brush them several times a day.
You can trim around their bums with human hair-clipping scissors, but unless your bunny is very calm, I wouldn’t recommend doing it yourself. A vet will probably do it cheaply.

Make sure to offer lots of hay, water, and fresh veggies to prevent blockages.

My Mini-Lop, I suspect is part wool breed as he has long, thick fur. For him, I find a small slicker brush works best. I use one made for toy dogs. That and the “wet hands” method works best.
