I use wood stove pellets in my litterbox, and was curious as to if I can use them on my rose bushes? Is there any prep I need to do first for the poo/peed on pellet combo? I am pretty new to this whole gardening thing. I also have a little area of wildflowers, and plan on putting in another temporary flower/veggie bed. I could probably set up a compost if that needs to happen. I have a fairly large yard and would love to use the waste instead of throwing it away!

I wouldn’t suggest using the litter but rabbit poo is some of the only poo that can be put on your garden without composting it. So you can use the poo directly on your garden.

If you plan to separate the 2, you can use a sieve or make one out of wire mesh. One with a gauge where the bunny poo doesn’t fit thru the squares.

The pellets aren’t very nutritious for plants but they wont hurt them, so if you get a few pellets along with bunny poos its ok.

I was reading a little more about composting, and it looks like the wood stove pellets are basically carbon, while the poo is nitrogen. Since you want about 2-3 parts carbon to 1 part of nitrogen, I think this might work out ideally. Some people worry about the sodium in the pellets, but others say it is no big deal. Mostly, they are not recommended for composting because of how expensive they are, but I am already going to be throwing them out, so it isn’t like I am only buying them to compost.

I also looked into worm composting, and it looks like wood stove pellets are a good option for them as well. I’m not sure I have a shaded enough area in the yard, plus a 50+ gallon trash can is much larger than a 20 or 30 gallon Rubbermaid tub, but it is another option I will be looking into.

So, for direct usage, poo alone, but for composting it looks like mixing is the way to go! Plus I am not sure if I could do direct usage with the dogs… They love their chocolate jellybeans! I really do need some sort of compost, and once I have one my household waste will be probably cut in half (if we aren’t including recyclables!).
