My bunny has very dry ears and the skin is flaking.  It’s not a big problem, becuase a little bit of mineral oil or baby lotion, and it goes away.  But, I have to do it continiously through the cold months.   Is that normal?  Do many bunnies get dry ears in the winter time?   I find that when I use my wife’s Jean Nate bath oil, it works the best, and my bunny likes it the best, but I get nervous about the fragrance and usually use plain mineral oil.   Any thoughts on the best type of oil to use for his ears?

Dry or flaky skin can be caused by mites or other parasites, but if the vet has ruled that out, I would say your bun just have sensitive skin. Don’t use the bath oil, not only can the fragrance hurt him/her, you don’t want your bun grooming its ears and ingesting it. The mineral oil should be fine, as well as cold-pressed coconut oil.

My Olivia gets mild, dry flaky ears and above her eyes off and on. Vet checked and said it was not mites. I use a tiny dab of mineral oil and massage the area.
