So tonight I closed Cookies pen for the night and was taking out his night pellets when I notice a red spot on one of his paws. I picked him up and found that one of his nails are no longer there and is replaced with a small blood stain. I kinda freaked out, but I don’t know what to do. He seems to be acting normal and running on it fine. It is late right now so I won’t be able to do anything about it until tomorrow. If I have to take him to the vet, I’ll do it. So for tonight will he be okay? I am worried it will get infected. Also should I take him to my vet tomorrow for it? What should I do!!!?

He likely tore it off by getting it caught in something. He will be fine, if you can clean it with some warm water but if not don’t worry too much.

Thanks sooo much for replying! You mean it will heal on its own? I don’t need to take him to the vet or do anything to it?

Shouldn’t need a vet visit if it stopped bleeding. Just keep it cleaned. You can give the vets office a call to see what they recommend cleaning it with though for rabbits. They sometimes snag a nail on things, frequent trims can help prevent it, but can still happen. May be a little tender for a few days.

Thank you. I think I’ll call them and see what they recommend I clean it with.
