Hi there. The breeder recommended giving Stanley some bene bac. Is this good stuff or us it just some junk the pet stores put on the shelf and make it look like we need it. Just like all the sugary treats. Ew lol. So yeah should I try it and if not does anyone know a better brand? I’d like him to be on a pro biotic cuz it’ll help.

Also the vet gave me this cream because his nose sore wasn’t getting better. It’s called Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Bacitracin Zinc Ophthalmic Ointment USP. Also weary to use that… Still haven’t used the ear cleaner they gave me. Skin guard s.

So what’s the verdict. How many of these new things shall I try and are they safe

        Thank you

There is no need for Benebac with a good balanced diet.

Benebac really doesn’t have the gut enzymes in it anyway that a rabbit has in their gut although many vets may recommend this when a rabbit is on antibiotics. Otherwise I don’t think it’s going to really help anything.

I don’t see why you can use that topical cream for his nose sore….

Benebac is a prohibiotic used when bunnies are on antibiotics. It really isn’t necessary if the bun is on a good diet.

Hey Caitlyn! Stanley’s vet is a good rabbit vet? And your happy with him/her? I’m super happy with mine (lucky me) and I’m always keen to follow his direction with Henry, so if your confident with your vet I’d use what he recommends. But yer, anything a breeder or the pet shop suggests it’s a good idea to run it past us BBer’s or your vet first as it may not always be in Stanley’s best interest – as you said, some push it for the sake of making a buck ($) out of our ignorance (and boy have I been caught out – not anymore, ha ha ha!). So use the cream for Stanley’s nose as directed by your vet and if you want him to be on a pro biotic just run that past the vet the next time your there, as 2 BBer’s have suggested it’s not necessary – and I personally have not given that a 2nd thought for Henry as he eats a good diet of fresh hay, quality pellets and a good variety of veg daily. That costs me enough, why spend more unnecessarily????? Cheers Caitlyn.
