Tonight – I noticed that Baxter is keeping one ear held against his head, itching and shaking his head back and forth frequently.  I checked his ear – and there is nothing odd that I can see.  Could this be ear mites?  And if so – how could he have gotten it.  They never go outside.

        Thanks for your help.

Good thinking about the mites, in that they would have to get it from an infected animal in the house. It could be an infection. Give it a smell. Sometimes my buns have done this, but I’m a big believer in “tincture of time” so if the itching isn’t excessive you may want to take a wait and watch approach. Don’t think there’s anything you, yourself could do anyway, so the vet would have to have a look down in there

Oops, accidentally pressed submit and I can’t edit on my kindle.
Did you get him to the vet? If so, what did the vet say?

I was expecting to take him yesterday morning – but what ever was bothering him seems to have cleared up on its own. He’s no longer shaking his head or itching his ear.

He must have gotten a piece of hay or something in his ear.

I suggest keeping an eye on him. If the scratching recurs, a vet check is a good idea because an infection can often be present with no other symptoms. But just like us, sometimes they just get an itch.

Thanks LPT. He’s been good today as well – but if it starts up again, I’ll be sure to take him to the vet.
